Hi Everyone - I wanted to get your opinion / reviews on both veritas and kaplan tests. Which one of them in your opinion was a close representation of the GMAT?

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi logro,

Why don't you get the official ones? They are the closest of the actual test.

Hey GMATWhiz - So i am planning to alternate between the official ones and a test prep provider so just wanted to make sure which ones are the closest ones to the official ones. I have already purchased the practice tests 3,4,5 & 6

thanks a lot for your reply

Then I think you should just stick to the official ones. Taking too many mock tests is not the best practice. Focus on the methodology while preparing for GMAT. Take practice quizzes for individual topics and based on the performance, identify your weaker areas and work on them. Once you are done with all the topics, then start taking mocks. Identify the mistakes done in the mock and make sure you don;t repeat them in the next one. Make sure you have a gap of at least a week between two mocks. If you follow this plan, I think the official mocks should be sufficient.

Hi logro,

The scoring algorithm on the Official GMAT is far more complicated than most people realize. Since that algorithm is proprietary, no GMAT company has an exact match for it, thus CAT scores can vary a bit based on the 'biases' involved in their respective designs. The most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC, but retaking a CAT that you've already taken is NOT a realistic way to assess your skills - since you will likely see some 'repeat' questions that you have already faced. Unfortunately, seeing even a couple of repeats can 'throw off' the Scoring Algorithm and impact your pacing, energy levels, fatigue, etc. (meaning that they would likely all appear to be better than they actually are). Thankfully, the CATs from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you correctly take the CAT in a realistic fashion).

From your prior posts, it's not clear how long you've been studying, so before I can offer you any additional advice, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your studies so far and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far besides the course that you mentioned?
3) On what dates have you taken EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
