Hi Abhi,

Can you share what you found different between RC99 n OG RCs? I've been doing RC99 passages for last few weeks n find them quite good for practice but I ve not yet started OG RCs as i want to do them once Ive learned best practices for myself.

You can use RC99 as of now, since you have already purchased it. But don't waste time in moving on to OG passages - you will feel the difference between both RC99 and OG!

I agree with Akhilesh. Get your hands on OG RC as soon as possible. I just gave GMATPrep and the RCs there are NOT as long but VERY VERY cryptic, which is the case with OG RCs as well.

RC99 is long but easy to comprehend. Maybe it's good to get "some" kind of strategy in place, but to polish those strategies and actually know how to handle GMAT RCs, practicing OG RCs is the only way to do so.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just did the first 4 passages of RC from OG 12 (accuracy ~80%). I will do around 4-5 more tomorrow but to be honest, I only felt minor differences between RC99 and OG 12 passages and questions. I have done around 20 RC passages from RC99 till now incl. 3 Medium difficulty passages (~70% accuracy) today. I am using RC99 to drill the mechanics of doing an RC such that it becomes second nature whenever I see a RC passage. I guess whatever works best for an individual :)

I guess so too. I think the key in RC is to create your own strategy, that you are comfortable and that works for you, and ultimately to make it a habit. Although I have sorta figured out the startegy that works for me but it has not yet become a habit. I still need a lot of practice.

On the side notes, when are you planning of giving your GMAT Vinay? Are you planning to apply this year or next year? You should consider sharing some of your stats.

Good luck with your preparation man. Good to see you are taking a very methodical approach; I did not quite do that. You will do good, no doubt.

Cheers.

Plus dont forget the GMATPrep RC passages that we will have to work on - about 25 of them.

I check the RCs in GMATPrep. It says 15 questions - so I am guessing 5 passages. Where did you see 25 passages? Are you talking about the passages from the tests themselves? Thanks dude.

Well, only I know how methodological I am in my prep  One thing that I remember reading before starting my prep (I think it was a tip from bb) was not to start off with OG and keep that material once you are good enough in each area. Still I did some questions from OG after a couple of weeks of prep to feel the questions and since then I have not touched them particularly for Verbal - only did the 4 RC passages based on suggestion from you and Akhilesh mainly to understand the difference. I have been focusing on completing SC Grail, RC99 and MGMAT Question Banks before I move to OG 12 questions. I think once you start OG it is not wise to then do any non-standard material (Akhilesh mentioned this earlier I guess) because then you indeed dont want to get distracted by poor or unrealistic content. But before I start OG (which I think is still 2-3 weeks away for me), I want to develop a natural reaction or habit to different types of questions in SC, CR and RC.

I will only take my GMAT in 1st or 2nd week of Sep, so I have a bit more time than you do. I will apply next year for the program starting in 2013. I will update my profile soon.

For RC practice - have you used MGMAT question bank? Also, I read somewhere that Kaplan's question bank is good for Verbal, may be check out its review.

That looks methodical to me :-) I think you are doing the right approach. Good luck!
I became active on forum recently. I joined early but never read anything. My friend suggested me few things and that's what I started working on. First thing, I finished MGMAT 3 verbal books. Then started working on OG. But since CR and RC didn't improve much after MGMAT books, I had to pick up other resources, such as Powerscore, and now doing OG 2nd time.
Now I think I can see through these verbal questions pretty well. I think I just need to work on my emotional side and work more on the timing. Hopefully with practice it will come by.

Are you looking for Exec MBA or PT or FT?

No, I have not used them yet. Are they good? I planned on using them later this week or next week.
I did Kaplan's SC (all 3 Question banks) and CR (had done only 2 so-far). I have not done their RC yet. I think Kaplan banks are good. They give you good practice under the time constraints.
