(A) one of the surest, easiest, and least expensive ways to begin to halt or even to reverse
" surest, easiest, and least" parallel .hold on to this one

(B) one of the most sure, easy, and least expensive ways to begin a halt or even reverse
"the most sure, easy, and least" most is modifying sure and easy. now "least" causes a problem due to parallelism .incorrect

(C) one of the surest, easiest, and least expensive ways that would begin halting or even reversing
"would",not talking about a hypothetical situation. Incorrect

(D) a most sure, easy, and inexpensive way beginning the halting and even reversing of
"a most " wrong right away. also ,the sentence is not finished . incorrect

(E) the most sure, easiest, and inexpensive way that would begin halting or even reversing
"most sure, easiest, and inexpensive way" ,"easiest" breaks the parallelism here. incorrect

A is the answer

Most cardiologists maintain that the implementation of a cardiovascular exercise regimen, along with the adoption of a diet low in trans-fats and processed sugars, is one of the surest, easiest, and least expensive ways to begin to halt or even to reverse the adverse effects of obesity on one’s health.

Experts' Global Official Explanation:

Tenses + Parallelism + Meaning + Verb Forms

Understanding the intended meaning is key to solving this question; the intended meaning of this sentence is that the implementation of a cardiovascular exercise regimen and the adoption of a diet low in trans-fats and processed sugars, is one of the surest, easiest, and least expensive ways to begin to halt or even to reverse the adverse effects of obesity on one’s health.

    • All elements in a list must be parallel.
    • Any elements joined by a conjunction (“or” in this sentence) must be parallel.
    • For referring to the purpose or intent of an action, the infinitive verb form (“to + base form of verb"- “to + halt” and “to + reverse” in this sentence) is preferred over the present participle ("verb+ing" - “halting” and “reversing” in this sentence) construction.

A. Correct. This answer choice correctly uses the phrase “one of the…”, conveying the intended meaning of the sentence- that the implementation of a cardiovascular exercise regimen and the adoption of a diet low in trans-fats and processed sugars, is one of the surest, easiest, and least expensive ways for one to begin to halt or even to reverse the adverse effects of obesity on one’s health. Further, Option A maintains parallelism among “surest”, “easiest”, and “least expensive”. Additionally, Option A uses the infinitive verb form (“to + base form of verb”) “to begin to halt or even to reverse” to refer to the purpose of the action “is one of the…ways”.

B. Trap. This answer choice fails to maintain parallelism among “most sure”, “easy”, and “least expensive”; please remember, elements in a list must be parallel. Further, Option B fails to maintain parallelism between “a halt” and “reverse”; please remember, any elements joined by a conjunction (“or” in this sentence) must be parallel.

C. Trap. This answer choice incorrectly modifies “ways” with “that would begin halting or even reversing”, incorrectly implying that the “ways” take the action of halting and reversing the effects of obesity; the intended meaning is that the implementation of a cardiovascular exercise regimen, along with the adoption of a diet low in trans-fats and processed sugars is one of the ways through which one can begin to halt or even to reverse the adverse effects of obesity on one’s health. Further, Option C uses the present participles (“verb+ing” - “halting” and “reversing” in this sentence) rather than the infinitive verb form (“to+ base form of verb” – “to + halt” and “to + reverse” in this sentence) to refer to the purpose of the action “is one of the…ways”; please remember, for referring to the purpose or intent of an action, the infinitive verb form (“to + base form of verb") is preferred over the present participle ("verb+ing" - “halting” and “reversing” in this sentence) construction.

D. This answer choice alters the meaning of the sentence through the phrase “a most sure…”; the construction of this phrase incorrectly implies that the implementation of a cardiovascular exercise regimen, along with the adoption of a diet low in trans-fats and processed sugars is just a sure, easy, and inexpensive way to begin to halt or even to reverse the effects of obesity; the intended meaning is that the implementation of a cardiovascular exercise regimen, along with the adoption of a diet low in trans-fats and processed sugars is one among the surest, easiest, and most inexpensive ways to begin to halt or even to reverse the effects of obesity. Further Option D uses the present participles (“verb+ing” - “beginning” and “reversing” in this sentence) rather than the infinitive verb form (“to+ base form of verb” – “to + begin” and “to + reverse” in this sentence) to refer to the purpose of the action “is one of the…ways”; please remember, for referring to the purpose or intent of an action, the infinitive verb form (“to + base form of verb") is preferred over the present participle ("verb + ing" - “beginning” and “reversing” in this sentence) construction.

E. This answer choice alters the meaning of the sentence through the phrases “the most” and “that would begin”; the construction of these phrases incorrectly implies that the implementation of a cardiovascular exercise regimen, along with the adoption of a diet low in trans-fats and processed sugars is the surest, easiest, and most inexpensive way that would begin to halt or even to reverse the effects of obesity; the intended meaning is that the implementation of a cardiovascular exercise regimen and the adoption of a diet low in trans-fats and processed sugars, is one of the surest, easiest, and least expensive ways for one to begin to halt or even to reverse the adverse effects of obesity on one’s health. Further, Option E fails to maintain parallelism among “sure”, “easiest”, and “inexpensive”; please remember, all elements in a list must be parallel. Additionally, Option E uses the present participles (“verb+ing” - “halting” and “reversing” in this sentence) rather than the infinitive verb form (“to+ base form of verb”) to refer to the purpose of the action “is one of the…ways”; please remember, for referring to the purpose or intent of an action, the infinitive verb form (“to + base form of verb") is preferred over the present participle ("verb+ing" - “halting” and “reversing” in this sentence) construction.

A is the best answer choice.
