That sounds like a pretty detailed explanation you wrote - more complex than needed really. It is along the right lines however.

D weakens, not strengthens. It says there are no bacteria naturally in oil so it contradicts or weakens the argument that bacteria are responsible for generating oil. That’s all.

Is option D wrong because of the following reasoning?
"The only bacteria yet found in oil reserves could have leaked down drill holes from surface contaminants" gives an indication that bacteria went down below the earth because of human activity and not because of nature or its existence since last thousand/millions of years. The formation of oil takes at least thousand of years, thus, going down of bacteria because of human activities decreases our confidence in the conclusion that the oil reserves are higher because of bacterial action. Please correct me if I am wrong.
