Hi Beeofthemonth,

If the deadline is not until August 22nd, then why are you limiting yourself to just 2 weeks of study before you take the GMAT? Are you trying to give yourself enough 'buffer' to take the GMAT again? If that is the case, then you should know that GMAC has shortened the 'waiting period' between exams from 31 days to 16 days. This new rule takes effect starting July 19th. Thus, you COULD push your Test Date back a bit and STILL have enough time in the calendar to take the GMAT again, if needed.

I wasn't certain if this would apply to all tests from now on, or only for those taken after 19th July. It doesn't make much difference for me in this case anyway, I could do the exam before the 30th July at most, since that is my scholarship application deadline.

Hi Beeofthemonth,

Since your next GMAT is 11 days away, and the scholarship deadline is 24 days away, you have to decide if that extra study time is worth paying the $50 fee and push your Test Date back a bit. Given the inconsistency in the scores that you've listed, I think that the extra study time could be quite helpful.

Have you taken any FULL-LENGTH CATs recently? If so, then what were your scores?

I'm not sure, to be honest. I'm going to take the second GMAT Prep exam I've got (or possibly re-take the old one I scored poorly on first) and see how I'll do.

Hi Beeofthemonth,

We need the MOST realistic score that you can get right now, so I highly recommend that you take a *new* CAT (don't retake a CAT that you've already used). You should also be sure to take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR sections), in the most realistic way possible (same time as your Official GMAT, away from your home, etc.).

Since the option to reschedule must be done AT LEAST 7 FULL days before your scheduled GMAT appointment, you'll have to take this next CAT sometime soon.

5 days away from my GMAT, I've done several things so far:
- Went over some of my past books, tackling problems I couldn't answer before

- Took an old paper GMAT with a score of 680 (V: 39, Q: 49). The verbal part seems accurate, while Quant is a bit inflated, since I remember doing several questions from this paper before. Goal: take two more paper GMAT tests before due date.
I noticed my DS is my weakest point in Quant, with 8 errors out of 17 questions. A couple are silly mistakes, too!

- Solving additional questions on GMATPrep. It's amazing how some of the harder questions leave me gasping for air. I'm trying to learn to focus myself and not get scatterbrained when I encounter a question I'll know I'll need my 2+ mins for.

- I keep tackling the OG daily. There's still a load of questions to finish, but I am pacing myself.

- I did the full-length CAT (GMATPrep) today and scored 650, with IR 8, Q43, V36. Surprisingly, I got almost the same IR questions I had on my previous test. This exam really took a lot out of me. I quessed on my third last question, running out of time - but I think this is a positive development, since I finished with a lot of extra time left over on my actual GMAT back in the day.
I feel like I need a bit more Verbal preparation and I've seen some of my weak spots pop up again.

Hi Beeofthemonth,

Your last CAT score is a good sign. In these last few days, it's important not to do too much - don't 'cram' and do your best not to burn out. You'll be better served by being well-rested and going into Test Day ready to work hard and earn those points.

I took the GMAT again yesterday and scored 630! Q39 V37 IR4.

Points to note:
1) I took way too long in the first half of both Quant and Verbal, trying to get those questions right. I think this tactic definitely paid off in Quant, but it makes me feel like I could've scored higher, have I had better time management skills. If I ever re-take the exam, I will be sure to work more full-length exams through.
2) I had the opportunity to be in the exam-hosting city the day before, so I didn't need to wake up really early and drive two hours there. I think this definitely helped relax me a bit.
