I was recently admitted to the College of William and Mary's Master of Accounting Program with a $5000 merit scholarship. Although, I was also recently interviewed by the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill's Master of Accounting Program, and was told that I was at the first layer of students that the school was interviewing.

Problem: I need to respond to William and Mary by April 12, and I don't know if UNC will reply to me by that time.

William and Mary Pros:
I get in-state tuition (12,000 less)
I love Virginia and chances of getting a job in Northern Virginia (my home) are high
5,000 scholarship
Total tuition: 24,000

William and Mary Cons:
I don't like the student atmosphere
I don't like the campus
It is not as highly regarded as UNC

UNC Pros:
Love the campus
Love the student atmosphere
Love the program and recruitment process

UNC Cons:
Total Tuition: 48,000
Don't know about Financial Aid
Chances of getting a job in DC are low

My resolution: E-mail the director for UNC admission, tell her that I need to respond to W&M by April 12, and that they need to get back to me.

Future goals: Work as an auditor at a big 4 firm. My undergraduate was in Government and Politics with a minor in Economics. I have a very abnormal work experience. Basically, I wasted 2 years after undergrad on an internship and being unemployed.

Please guide me!

I would consider the scenerio of would you rather join big4 in Charlotte or Atlanta or go to a GT/BDO/McGladdrey in DC/Northern Virginia and decide which one you'd be happier with. Also look at linkedin and see how william and mary places (i dont know, i have no interest in DC/VA area). Aslo consider the chances that you might still have to do midtier accounting in raleigh/charlotte and have UNC debt.

Thank you for your comment. When I was interviewed at UNC, I was told quiete bluntly that my chances of obtaining work at Big4 in DC are low. Although, I have been told that it is not too difficult to transfer between offices, e.g. Atlanta to DC. I would be much happier working in Big4 in Atlanta or Charlotte rather than a midtier firm in DC, even if salaries are the same.

Its a tough decision.

Um, I'm not sure who at UNC told you your chances of getting a big4 audit job in DC were low, but they were very mistaken. I just graduated from UNC MAC and everyone I know that interviewed for placement in DC got a job.
