Hey,

First of all, I would like to thank you for the time you take to analyse each of the profiles.
You asked me for more details on certain points of my profile so here I am again !

Background and nationality : French student in a top 20 business school in France.
Exchange in UMASS Boston, US - Accounting/Finance courses (6 months)
GPA : 14,5/20 (French grade system)
3.8-4/4 equivalent (I used the official gmat converter but I think schools have specific expectations depending on the “level/ranking” of the school - maybe I’m wrong).
Age : 23 years old when I will apply.

GMAT : I will get a 660-710. Ideally 680+.

Work experience and leadership :
Internship (3 months) as a an assistant to the manager of finance of a subsidiary company
1 year (Apprenticeship) as a Financial Auditor - PwC (Big 4)
1 year (Apprenticeship) as a Financial Analyst (Risk Credit) - Asset Management - BNP Paribas (Biggest bank in Europe and the best one in France).

Community and others :
Doing CFI FMVA certification (I think it's an important point because it's a paid and recognised certification that teaches me all the necessary hard skills (corporate finance/financial modeling/excel/etc..) for the investment banking profession).

Extracurricular activities:
Vice President and Treasurer of an association organising the ski trip for the students of my school. (300k€ budget).

Investment association of my school : I had the opportunity to teach small groups of 5-10 students at my school about technical analysis in the context of stock market and crypto asset investment.

Post Master goals : Investment banking / Private Equity / Hedge Fund

Target :
These are the targets I had in mind but I wonder if I will have the opportunity to aim higher (MIT - MiF for example?). (Dream school ahah)
But I will be more than satisfied to get at least one of my first five targets.
I also have the possibility of aiming for masters in management (MiM - 2 years) in these schools and specialising in finance but having already done a 5 year academic program in my school i dont know if it is appropriate.

LSE - Ms Finance and Private Equity
LBS - Ms Finance
HEC - International Finance
ESCP - Ms Finance
ESSEC - Ms Finance
EDHEC - Ms Finance

Thanking you in advance for your time.

Hello everyone. I have recently finished my undergrad in Bachelor's in Commerce and am looking at the following MSc finance programs for the September 2023 intake. I will be applying sometime this December.

ESSEC
Frankfurt
SKEMA
IE
Bocconi
Stockholm School of Economics
WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management
EDHEC
McGill
Edinburgh
ESADE
Trinity Business School
Bayes Business School

Background and nationality - Indian, completed my 12th with a 95.6% in the AISSCE examinations.

Undergrad information - Finished my undergrad with a GPA of 8.0/10. In my university, that translates to approximately 85-90%. I am approximately in the 93rd percentile in my class.

GMAT 700 (Q44, V40)

Work experience - At the time of application, roughly 3 months in an investment banking internship, 2 months in the treasury department of a commercial bank, and 3 months in the financial research internship from Wall Street Oasis. I would also like to mention that after I apply in December, I will be working for roughly another 6 months in the same bank. So before I join my masters', I would have 14 months of experience, BUT while applying I would have roughly 8 months. Would this make a difference?

Leadership - I was responsible for leading a team that conducted a three month survey studying financial literacy amongst the BCom.(Hons.) students in the campus.

Extracurriculars - I have been responsible for helping coordinate various programs in my hostel, including plays put up during festivities. I was involved in scriptwriting for the same plays. I'm currently working on a blog where I would frequently publish my poetry. To compensate for the lack of extracurriculars on account of me having pursued my education online due to the pandemic, I am doing a few virtual internships from Forage, including a sustainable finance internship. I am also attending the HPAIR 2022 conference as a delegate.

Volunteering - Applying for the GITEX expo and the Tech expo taking place in Dubai. Hope to get into those. I am looking at various other volunteering work that I can do here in NGOs.

Other activities - Current FMVA candidate from CFI

What programs among these do I have the most chance of getting into?

Hey,
As you mentioned you want to pursue Mfin, your profile looks pretty decent

Your GMAT score is excellent
GPA is pretty good.

Your work experience in the same field adds value to your profile and shows how passionate you are about this field.

Hey,
Academically, you have a good GPA which showcases your academic power. Speaking of your GMAT score of 740, it would definitely work in your favour as it further illustrates your academic capabilities, allowing you to apply to most of the top colleges. While your grades do play an important part, your extracurricular activities and your other endeavours matter as well because AdComs are looking for applicants with holistically developed profiles.

You lack on some things like extracurricular activities. You should work on these. You can add something like volunteering, leadership skills. These extracurriculars showcase your ability to take up initiatives, impact others and to empathize with other people. B-schools are looking for applicants that are future leaders and such experiences and qualities strengthen your application. Apart from these, highlighting activities like participation in clubs or associations, management of fests and events or leading sports teams showcases how you have developed more holistically and helps present a more well-rounded profile. In case you are lacking in these, you can start building towards it by leading teams or organizing fests or taking up initiatives while still in your undergrad.

Your 5 months of experience interning with is going well to your profile. You should showcase what was your role there, the projects you undertook and what your impacts and learnings were at this role.

As you are targeting top schools for M.Sc. Finance, The schools that you have shortlisted, they fall under the following categories

Dream: LBS, Oxford, LSE, Imperial, NUS

Competitive: ESSEC
,

You would have a 40-50% chance of getting the admit from the schools in the dream category and a 60-70% chance from the schools in the competitive category. To increase your chances of getting admitted at these schools you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application to back your profile. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers and how you are a great value addition to the school.

Hi everyone,

I am a law graduate who wants to get an MS in Finance(only STEM certified - to take advantage of 3 years of post work visa). I know I am lacking fundamentals to be admitted and that is the reason I am seeking advice from you guys.

My profile:
- 24 years old from East Europe. Currently in the US on an F1 visa.
- GPA: 3.17/4.00 - The best grade was 3.23 in my year of graduation(2021). I hold the second best grade. Unfortunately the profs, unlike their colleagues from UK and US, are not flying high in East Europe. So I do not accept this GPA as a low one.
- I have done two legal internships during my studies. One of them was in the Defense Industry so I was dealing with Intellectual Property Law. Besides the legal role I had a chance to interact with clients from different countries to sell military equipment, guns and bullets. Our clients were mostly government bodies.(literally sold bullets and shields to Azerbaijan before Karabakh War)
- I have done an Erasmus Exchange in Poland and two cultural exchange to the US during summers(One of them actually taught me how to bartend).
- I also founded a trade company to trade dried and fresh fruits between Mediterranean countries and East Europe during my studies.
- I have done an internship in the field of procurement in a quick commerce startup located in San Fran, CA.
- Have been member of The European Law Students' Association.
- Have organized events under a social and political foundation that has been established to tell people about the human rights' violation happening against Uyghur minority in China.

I am curious about the admission chances. Since I am a non-business/finance major I have a plan to take online courses with credits for fundamental courses(such as Calculus, Intro to Financial Accounting and Statistics). Besides that, I would like to take the GMAT exam to demonstrate the quantitative knowledge I have(I am planing to take 3 months to prepare for it). There are different universities offering Transcripts for those fundamental courses via Outlier and Saylor etc. Would it be reputable if I took those courses online?

I am hoping to get into a school with good reputation and employment rates for international students.

Indiana University Bloomington - Kelley Business School just waived TOEFL and GMAT for me after sending them my resume and unofficial transcript. I believe this is a good sign. I would like to go for the best option possible but I could not find much about Kelley Business School.

Please review my profile and situation honestly. Any recommendation for online courses and master programs is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Hey,
I must mention here you have a pretty good profile.

Your GPA is pretty decent
The only parameter where you lack is your work experience

As you mentioned you want to pursue Mfin, mostly every MFin school requires a minimum number of work experience, preferable in the finance sector.

What you have is internship experience and that won’t be counted as work experience.

But don’t worry you can totally make up for it.
As there are more than one factor that the adcoms look for. For starters I would recommend you to do volunteering and start working with an NGO.
This will definitely shine in your resume.
Secondly you haven’t mentioned any of your extracurricular activities. Make sure to include it in your SOP that can be used as well to compensate for your work experience.

You plan on taking the GMAT, aim to score 700+. With this GMAT score and your GPA you can easily compensate for your work ex and you can get into your dream b-school

If you would like to know more about how you should draft your application to compensate for your insufficient work experience, we would be happy to help you.
If you would like, we can help you with essays and SOPs and other application processes.

We have helped over 5000 students get admit into their dream schools.

An otherwise excellent profile might get rejected if the application is not up to the mark. Thus, you need to be very careful with your SOPs, Essays, LORs and other key factors of your application so that you don’t miss out any point that makes you the right candidate.

Hey Putintin,

You seem ambitious about pursuing a career in finance - This is reflected in the effort you have put in your personal investment projects. If this aspect is portrayed properly in your application, schools will be interested in this.

As far as the profile is concerned, CFI will definitely add value so definitely highlight that.
Work ex, looks pretty fair as well, also you have a brand name like pwc on your resume which might add a value, especially for the top schools.

As for your profile, your GRE score is a plus point for your profile and would help you to outrun most of the competitive profiles in the first initial overview itself.

Academically, you have a good GPA which showcases your academic power. It would definitely work in your favour as it further illustrates your academic capabilities, allowing you to apply to most of the top colleges. While your grades do play an important part, your extracurricular activities and your other endeavours matter as well because AdComs are looking for applicants with holistically developed profiles.

Now coming to the GMAT, yes you mentioned a big range. Try to score above 690+, it should work for you.
Also, try to add more details about your extracurriculars, you lack on that.

Your target schools seems good.

Remember to build a strong and compelling application explaining why you are the perfect candidate in your essay and SOP.
On this note, to prepare a strong application to meet the upcoming deadlines right on time, you can check our comprehensive all in one solution that has helped thousands of applicants get into their dream schools including schools like HEC, INSEAD and LBS!

I must say you have a pretty good profile here, GPA is pretty good.
You have a decent work experience and your extracurricular activities are impressive.
They definitely showcase your leadership and hardworking skills.

I see you have volunteering experience as well. Do not forget to mention this in your SOP.
Volunteering will definitely shine in your profile.

    McGill
    Edinburgh
    ESADE
    Trinity Business School
    Bayes Business School
These are considered the top schools for MFin globally but GMAT is an essential requirement there.
Your current GMAT 700 which is not bad, but if you want to maximise your chances of admission I’d suggest you give your GMAT one more time and aim to score 710-720 this time.

All in all your profile is pretty decent and you can get admission in your school of choice.

Thanks in advance!!

dak61,
Great profile.
and Kelley's application fee waiver is also a positive note. Yet, the difference between a great profile, and a strong application leveraging a great profile can be huge scholarship dollars.

What programs among these do I have the most chance of getting into?

sathya24,
Your choice of schools shows you have had bad advice in terms of the top schools you can target.
You have a standout profile, and if you were to submit a strong application that leverages your profile well, you can not only go higher to the top brand name schools, but also have a good chance at scholarships.

Please let me know what may be my chances & where can I improve to stand better for Finance Programs.
I have a few interesting elements in my profile that can be used to build a cohesive story.
My main goal is to get into M&A IB, that is the reason for being a bit selective towards IB M&A focused programs.

I'll be grateful for any other solutions & advise on my profile & if I should also apply any other schools in EU/UK & even US to boost my chances of making into BB M&A.

Thanks for your support!

MS Finance Profile Evaluations [Master Thread]: Post all Profiles Here [#permalink]
Hi people, im currently preparing applications for several finance programs and would appreciate some feedback on my profile :)

- Background and nationality: half German half Greek, 20 years old
- Undergrad Information: currently first class / 4.0 GPA (according to official gmat page grade conversion) at German target uni majoring in finance and computer science
- GMAT: 710 but will retry as I scored 770 in my mocks and aiming for 750
- Work experience: a startup internship, consulting internships with two MBB firms and a German financial services consultancy
- Community and others: co-founded a website aiming to help high school students that are interested in business and looking at a career in the field, also organising and moderating webinars with this project (non profit and free to everyone)
- post master goals: consulting, PE or quant research but also keeping an eye at a finance PhD
- Anything else: my main insecurity is the fact that I am not yet fully committed to either full finance or consulting as you can also tell from my post masters goals. Do you think the unis will weigh this as a major factor? Also currently looking for / applying to PE and quant research internships for spring '23

Programs (Summer 23 intake):
- Oxford MFE
- MIT MFin
- Cambridge MPhil Finance
- HEC Finance
- LSE either finance or PE master

Glad for any evaluation :)
