My ultimate goal is to get a Ph.D. in marketing. I do not possess a BS in Marketing, so I am considering getting a master's degree as a stepping point for Ph.D. However, for personal reasons, I don't want to go to a school outside of the state I reside, and most of the schools in the state offer MBA or one-year MS programs, which do not require a thesis for completion. Nonetheless, going to MS in marketing will be a plus if I apply to a Ph.D. program later? What do you think...?
Hello dearThanks for your post i have moved it to the respective forum, I am not an expert to answer this but i would like to make some comment based on my experience.
A good Ph.D programs like to see in candidates (Apart from tests score, essays, interview and recommendations letters)
A good educational background in the area in which student wants to pursue Ph.D
Potential of student being a Ph.D
Quality of research work student has done in his previous study.
Your potential will be visible by the work done by you in your undergraduate or Masters thesis.
Quality of your research work will be visible if you have any published article/research and the worth of the journal in which you have get that published.
So all in all, Yes a Master in Marketing will definitely add a value to your candidacy. It will add more value when you do a research work in it and preferably get your work published in a relevant good rated journal.
