There are a lot of new programs in analytics that have been started in recent years.

However most of these programs are so young that there are no reports or statistics available about the employment opportunities for graduates of these courses.

It would be great if any of you could share info about the analytics programs at Olin, Columbia, McCombs, or USC.

Hi aryabhata - as you know, most people around here are focusing on MBA programs so not sure how much of a response you'll get to this from applicants - but we wanted to add NYU Stern to your list of schools! We talked about Stern recently on the EssaySnark blahg as we named them our #1 favorite bschool, and one reason for that (of many) is their Big Data focus which they launched quite some time ago. So they are definitely one to consider as well.

In terms of employment opportunities, you're going to be quite in demand just based on the incredible growth in business analytics - and also because there just aren't that many students interested in pursuing this area yet. So you'll be sitting pretty as a candidate coming out of one of these programs, likely with multiple offers if you play your cards right. Just like healthcare MBAs, there aren't nearly enough graduates to fill the open positions in all the different areas of analytics and Big Data.

Of course, much depends on your industry experience and focus too, and specializing in one certain area can help a lot. All four of the programs you've named (plus Stern) have a lot to offer so we strongly encourage you to be digging in with them, attend info sessions, online webinars with the school reps, considering visiting if you can - and just reach out and contact their admissions people with your questions. Because they tend to not get as many apps for these specialized Master's programs they are often very very accommodating in terms of profiles that they might admit (provided you have the requisite strength in the quant side obviously) and you might be surprised at how receptive they can be when you contact them. Try to get in touch with some students and ask your questions of them; that's the best way to determine 'school fit' and know which ones are right for you.

Hope this helps! Good luck with it! You're likely to end up in a very good place if you pursue this. Let us know if there's something specific we can answer, and maybe some others will pipe in with their experiences with any of these programs particularly.
