Hi everyone.
Please help me evaluate my chances of admission at ms finance programs in US.
Profile:
I have completed my Bachelor in Commerce from University of Mumbai,India
Overall CGPA: 5.55/7 ( for the last year CGPA:7/7)
GMAT Score: Quant-48
Verbal-28
IR-6
Total-630
Work experience: 3 months internship in Treasury department of a Company
toefl: not yet given.(but hoping to get >100)
Cleared CFA Level 1
Cleared 3 subjects of Actuarial Science exams from Institute & Faculty of Actuaries,UK
Target Schools:
Villanova MSF, Purdue MSF, University of Rochester MSF, UIUC, UC-San diego,Boston College, Baruch MSF , Johns Hopkins MSF.
You can also suggest other universities in which i have a better chance of getting into
I'd give you pretty low odds at most of those schools. The GMAT is way too low, mainly because of the verbal. You might get a look at Purdue or UC San Diego, but I think even those schools will be tough.
My advice is the following:
Improve your verbal. This will easily get you into the 700's. It will also be necessary for any US MSF program and job. You are going to have to write papers in the MSF and I would say a verbal score that low shows you are struggling with English and syntax, etc. Not an insult since you speak English as a second language, but if you are doing a program in English you won't get a free pass if your writing sucks. You also will struggle when it comes to interviewing.
Why not look at MFE programs? You are doing actuarial exams now. These programs tend to care less about writing and English skills. Same with the companies who hire graduates. Might be a better fit IMO.
