Hello, I am an international student applicant and have received admission in Ohio State(Fisher School of Business) and University of Utah(David eccles school of Business) for MSF (Masters of Science Finance) programs. Ohio is giving me a $15k scholarship and I think that I will get one from Utah.

As an engineer with no background and internships in finance, which is a better program for me?

I am talking with respect to job prospects, curriculum and overall reputation of the university.

I am concerned that no internship opportunity will hinder me in job search .

I have cleared CFA level 1 and appearing for level 2 so that should give me some leverage during job hunt

UT, USC and Vandy might be tuff. However, still possible

The CFA 1 should help demonstrate interest.

The 159 on Verbal is quite good for a foreign student. Math 160 is fine

The Engineering background demonstrates comfort with math and computers.

The GRE isn’t too bad.

A lot will depend on your essay, video essay and references.

I am an international student currently studying Finance at Ohio University and currently looking to applying to MS in Finance programs that have a STEM Designation.

GPA: 3.25/4.0
GRE: 305 (I am planning on taking it again); Quant 156, Verbal 148
I have been involved with student organizations on campus; the most relevant one is a student-run equity management group that manages $4.6 million. I have been a part of the group for all 4 years during undergrad. I had an internship in India at a small Wealth Management and Portfolio Management company.

The schools I am looking at are:

Ohio State University
University of Rochester
University of Pittsburgh
Bentley University
Boston College
Syracuse University

Do you think I have a chance or getting into any of these schools? If not, what would be some other schools and do I stand a chance for any scholarships?

Thank You.

I would suggest retaking the GRE. I put it in the ETS conversion and it comes out to be around a 520 GMAT. That, coupled with the lower GPA, will make you a marginal candidate at most schools.

Assuming you can't or don't want to redo the GRE, I would say Syracuse and Pitt would probably be your best shot. Maybe Bentley. Boston College and OSU, no way. Like they would have to have a major shortfall in applications for you to stand a chance.

If my GRE assumptions are wrong, my advice changes, but this is based off the conversion.

Hey there,

So overall you have a fair profile. Here are a few pointers about the same -
You have a fair amount of work experience can easily be highlighted in your application and essay and will provide a positive impact on the school admission cell.
However, the schools are interested in impact rather than just participation.
So make sure that you exemplify your learnings and your interest in finance field through your Work experience.
You have a comparatively average GPA; make sure to highlight your other profile strengths.
Your CFA level 1 tag is an add-on to your profile, and will definitely provide a positive impact to the selectors, make sure you properly showcase it in your essay as well.
As for your target schools, USC, Vanderbilt, Purdue, UC San Diego, and Texas McCombs have a good reputation but also are quite competitive so make sure that you spend enough time perfecting your Essay and application.
To help you give a better context, here is bifurcation for the same
Competitive - USC, Vanderbilt, Purdue, UC San Diego, and Texas McCombs
Safe- ASU, OSU, SUNY Buffalo, Bentley, Syracuse
Apart from these, you can also try your luck in other Top B-Schools that offer good Masters in Finance programs in the US :

Sloan School of Management, MIT
Brandeis International Business School, Brandeis University
Bendheim Center for Finance, Princeton University
University of Illinois
Carroll School of Management, Boston College
Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, College Park
