I have definitely been loving Business school, however, there are a few things about the transition that are more difficult than I imagined. Now almost nearing the end of the course, I’ve had a chance to look back through some of the hardest decision I’ve had to make concerning going back to being a full time student.
1. No regular income: Getting used to the fact of not having a pay cheque encashed into my account at the end of every month after having been in regular employment for such a long time is definitely one of the biggest challenges.
Action Plan: Plan your savings judiciously and in advance so that you save up enough to take you through the duration of the course. Create a concrete budget and stick to it, so that you can estimate exactly your monetary position at any point of time.
2. Time Management : Unlike working in an office, a B-school can be very demanding on your time. You will always have your platter full with assignments, study, social work, and other extra curricular activities.
What you can do : Prioritising work items and preparing a to-do list on a daily basis would definitely help. Also, this way you could spare time for yourself and most importantly your near and dear ones.
3. Employment Opportunities : The most difficult decision is plunging into uncertainty from a comfortably employed situation. The prime reason for most of us getting into B school betterment of job prospects. The main problem is actually narrowing down what really excites you , shifting your career path and also the ups and downs that are involved in the process. Also, you cannot be sure of whether you would certainly find this opportunity which totally depends on the hiring trends of the present financial year and the overall economic and employment market conditions.
Actionable: Be in regular touch with the Placement cell, take time to go through the previous jobs offered, companies that gave presentations and review various sectoral information that interests you. Chalk out a plan for yourself and try to align it so as to maximise the utilisation of the available resource the school offers. You may also contact alumni, discuss with faculty .
