Hi there! first time post! I am starting this thread to post my daily (or whenever I can) progress/adventure towards the GMAT, which I will be taking at the end of May. While I don't expect to crack the 700+ score, I do hope to get the highest possible mark given the time I have (applying for Master of Finance here in Australia). If I had to set an arbitrary goal, I would say that I am aiming for at least 600, and anything greater than 650 would be swell!
I'll be taking my first practice gmat exam next Monday Morning (gmat prep), and will post my result on completion. I will be taking one of these tests every Monday (mostly to get used to the duration and format of the exam).
So I've been studying for just over a month now, averaging about 1.5 hours a day. I've started with the Kaplan GMAT Premier 2014 to learn about the test, and the approaches/strategies that can be taken for the different question types.
I've recently been going through the GMAT OG 2015, and have gone through about 75% of all the materials in that book, and plan to move onto the
MGMAT guides (mostly for practice questions, as I feel pretty confident in most of the strategies and fundamental skills that I've acquired from Kaplan and practicing OG questions), and also introduce more questions from OG (verb and quant review 2e). And very recently, by scouring these forums, I have acquired some great resources (practice questions, notes, idiom cards etc.) and a lot of advice and inspiration! and have even downloaded the gmat club ap (handy for practice questions and flash cards on the train or whenever). Primarily, however, I would say that most of my study material (at least for a couple of weeks) will be OG and
MGMAT.
I've been taking small sets of practice questions using gmat prep, and have found so far that my CR and RC are not up to par, and SC can use some improvement (quant is going okay, getting most (70 - 85%) of the questions right even when they have been hard question types most of the time (I tend to mess up data sufficiency questions more often than problem solving ones)), and so I will be introducing a greater proportion of my study time towards these areas: I started practicing quant: verbal at about 3:1, and will start devoting an even amount of time to quant and verbal, with an emphasis on RC and CR, from now on (~1:1).
So here we go! Any advice on my studies would be appreciated! If you had this sort of time frame (even assume little/no study up until this point) how would you approach studying for the GMAT? should I stick with just OG materials instead of diversifying? should I just stick with gmat prep CATs only (my current intention)? Any advice would be appreciated. My main motivation for this thread is a selfish one: Mainly to hold myself accountable for my progress, and perhaps also as a journal of sorts.
today: OG: data sufficiency (1.5 hours), RC (45 min), CR (25 min), SC (20 min). Gmat prep software: set of practice questions: maybe 5 of each of CR, RC, DS, PS, SC.
Thanks for having a look!
Andy.
