I think you stand a very good chance. You come from a very unique angle -- trust me, I know this b/c I come from a publishing background (trade books) and will be starting Kellogg in September!!

good luck and let me know if you have any specific questions about the essays, etc. (send a private message)

I posted this a few weeks ago, but no one got back to me. ANyone have any thoughs?

Kellogg's is my dream school.

I've just gotten 740 on my GMAT and I'm planning on applying for Fall 2007 deadline.

I have 4 years of work experience in a technology oriented publication. I currently reside as the assistant managing editor. I've had great success in this field, and I would like an MBA to help me do even better in the technology publication industry.

I went to a top 50 US techonology oriented institute, graduating with a 3.6 GPA. My major was Electronic Arts, with a minor in CompSci and another minor in Game Studies.

My long-term goal: To start up a technology publication of my own.

But first, I'd like to go to Kellogg's because I want to concentrate on marketing. Too often do I see mistakes made by those in touch with the tech-world and not so much with reality. I think an MBA will help me bridge the gap between the "nerdy" and the corporate savvy.

Does anyone have any tips/suggestions for me?

Thanks in advance

Hello, KLmets

Congratulations on your 740 GMAT score! Your four years in a technology-oriented publication and your role as assistant managing editor demonstrate strong leadership and industry experience. In your application, highlight your career progression and impact.

Your unique background in Electronic Arts, with minors in Computer Science and Game Studies from a top 50 US tech institute, adds diversity. Emphasize how this perspective will contribute to Kellogg's community.

Clearly state your goal of starting a technology publication and how an MBA from Kellogg, known for its marketing program, will help you bridge the gap between tech and business. Mention specific Kellogg courses, professors, and resources that align with your ambitions.

In your essays and interviews, be authentic and reflective. Show your passion for technology and marketing through work examples and projects. Choose recommenders who can provide concrete examples of your leadership and impact. Prepare to discuss your career path, reasons for choosing Kellogg, and your long-term goals.

Your GMAT score, unique education, and leadership experience make you a strong candidate. By articulating your goals and demonstrating how Kellogg is the perfect fit, you can create a compelling application. Good luck!

Hi, a couple of points here:
1. Goals- b-schools like applicants to have grand goals about what kind of impact do they wish to attain through their careers. Your thinking is on the right path with regards to your career goals. However, you will have to flesh out the details- what kind of company/ role do you want post MBA and does that require an MBA education? You will also have to show some existing business savvy, that you were able to take decisions with the business profitability in mind. That would also help create an impactful resume that shows your your leadership skills and achievements where you helped the top line/ bottom line.
2. While Kellogg is known for marketing, so are other programs good for marketing. Its never beneficial to apply to just one MBA program in a cycle- what if you don't get admission? You will have wasted an entire application cycle. Secondly, you will need more than just marketing courses to succeed as an industry leader. That's why MBA is a general management degree, where you can study different aspects of business (Strategy, finance, operations)  and also specialize in one area, such as marketing. I suggest you read through the curriculum of several MBA programs- that will both excite you about other b-schools and help you understand how more can you benefit from their education (in addition to marketing).
