Hi everyone.
I started my preparation for the GMAT exam 2-3 weeks ago. I read this forum on daily basis and it definitely helps with my preparation. I would like to get feedback on my study plan from gmatclub members.
I wanted to explore all major prep companies and their materials. I took a week to go through free trials (
Magoosh, Empower GMAT, Veritas, Kaplan,
MGMAT and several others). I ended up purchasing Veritas On-Demand Prep as the main resource of my prep. Additionally, I purchased
Magoosh for extra videos and questions, OG bundle, and I also got
MGMAT Verbal books, Powerscore CR (got unused for a $1 at a yard sale). I really liked EmpowerGMAT but I picked
Magoosh over EmpowerGMAT. I plan on using
Magoosh over the whole period of my preparation. EmpowerGMAT monthly subscription plan did not work for me because I wanted to have a resource that I "own". I will definitely consider EmpowerGMAT's booster if I end up not being happy with my scores/or have additional time for preparation.
I am able to study 5-10 hours during the week and 10-12 hours over the weekend. I would like to take the test in January (should give me enough time for the second attempt - if I won't be happy with my score). I also take very detailed notes on all lessons, videos and problems. I keep an error blog too. Here is my plan:
1) Veritas on Demand Quant Lessons and books - 4 weeks (finished arithmetics, geometry and algebra); Going over GMATClub's Ultimate Grammar book now
2) Veritas on Demand Verbal/IR/AWA Lessons and books +
Magoosh Quant Problems, and videos if there is a need - 6 weeks
3) Verbal and Quant Question Banks - Veritas,
Magoosh, Official Guide - 2 to 4 weeks
4) Combination of working on my weaknesses, practice tests and question banks
I would really appreciate any thoughts on my study plan (verbal is definitely my weakness). Here are couple of questions I have:
1) When should I take my first prep test?
2) Should I only take full tests? (or should I start taking Quant and Verbal separately?)
3) I have these tests available: 6
MGMAT, 6 Veritas, 2 GMATprep, 2
Magoosh. Should I mix them up as I go through them? Any other sources for practice tests you would suggest?
4) Additional resources I currently have: All
MGMAT Verbal books and PowerScore CR. I plan on using them in the last (4) phase.
About me: I am originally from a small European country. I started learning English when I was 16 and took SATs only one year later. I came to the US when I was 18. I will be applying for MBA programs in 2016. My GMAT goal is 700+.
Thank you very much for reading my post. I will keep updating the thread with my progress.
