Looking at the statistics that they sent with my score report, and based on the 80/80 preference, one may conclude that top schools only view about 20% of GMAT test takers as potential applicants.
General success (acceptance) rate is about 15% on average, so for the 20% of GMAT test takers (80/80's and above) the score is just a minor part of the application! Adcoms are right.
