Hi all,
Recently i have taken GMATprep exam pack 2 Mock CATs.
My quant scores really seem under rated.
CAT 1 - Q 50 (only 4 incorrect, incorrect question no.s 11, 24 ,34, 37).
This gets really disgusting here
CAT 2 - Q 49 (only 4 incorrect, incorrect question no.s 17, 28 ,30, 37). . Really a 49!!??
I had belief that GMATprep MOCK are the real measures for one's standards, but after CAT 2, seeing a score of 49 that too after a good performance, my belief in GMATprep sofware is totally gone.
Am I overlooking any other factor here? Really need a help.
Thank You
JP
It's important to know that your scores are not based on how many questions you answer correctly; they're based on the
level of difficulty of the questions you answer correctly/incorrectly.
To illustrate this, I'll share an experiment I performed.
When I was writing the article
Taking the GMATPrep Practice Tests Multiple Times (
https://www.gmatprepnow.com/articles/taking-gmatprep-practice-tests-multiple-times), I took GMATPrep Practice Test #1 four times, and each time I answered every second question correctly (I did this for the quant section only)
Given that I correctly answered exactly half of the questions each time, you'd expect my quant scores to be roughly the same for all 4 tests.
My 4 scaled scores were: 19, 23, 26 and 42 This represents a percentile range from approximately 8th percentile to the 63rd percentile.
So, it's quite possible that the 4 questions you got wrong on the 2nd test were much easier than the 4 questions you got wrong on the 1st test. Thus the difference in scores.
Aside: If you're interested, we have a video explaining the GMAT scoring algorithm:
