'not only... but' is correctly used.
'such as' .. is correctly used.

What should the answer be for this question ?

A dolphin passes on to its descendant not only a specific genetic makeup and also definite environmental needs, such as for one specific sea's temperature and salinity.
1. and also definite environmental needs, such as for one specific sea's temperature
2. and also definite environmental needs, like the temperature of one specific sea
3. but also definite environmental needs, such as for the temperature of one specific sea
4. but also definite environmental needs, like one specific sea’s temperature

not only... but also - Idiomatic.
A and B out.

E sounds more apt:
A dolphin passes on to its descendant not only a specific genetic makeup but also definite environmental needs, such as the need for one specific sea's:
Temperature
AND
Salinity.
Parallel.

C is the second best choice but lacks a little on parallelism:

such as the need for:
temperature of one specific sea [noun+modifier]
AND
salinity [of what is not mentioned] [noun; modifier missing]

Ans: "E"

Has to be E...
The idiom tested here is 'not only X...but also Y'
This eliminates A and B...
Among C,D and E.. We can eliminate D...'such as' needs to be used for examples and not 'like'...
C is not clear when it comes to conveying the meaning... 'temperature of X and Y' does not mean 'temperature of X and temperature of Y'...
Left with E...

"not only...., but also" is the idiom.
"such as" is used to list examples, not "like".
The meaning in C is not logical.
