Hello Guys! I wish to know your perspective since due to the economic crisis I live in, where a minimum wage is around ~4 USD, every application dollar counts and even hurts.
Thanks in advance

- 27 Male, Venezuelan-Syrian. First generation college student.
- GMAT: Practice test scores so far 720. Won´t apply with less than that.
- GPA: 3.0 Industrial Engineering in top engineering school in Venezuela ( but somewhat explainable), fellowship to exchange for a year in France. Graduate Diplomas on Marketing ("approved" - not scored) and currently on Financial Management (3.8 so far)
WE:
1)2y9mo (at matriculation) in Market Strategy roles in Top 3 global Risk Consulting and Broking company. 1 promotion; led and managed projects of large impact, and intl exposure. (Venezuela)
2)1y1mo in P&G in Market Strategy and Planning as mostly full-time intern (used the time during which my school was on strike due to socio-political instability), awarded a 5/5 score. Rejected offer in R&D (only available post) due to vocational objectives. (Venezuela)
3)6mo internship in Client Strategy at French multinational in its headquarters (Paris)
EC and awards:
- 1yr Job at an NGO (after office, weekdays) for human rights and international activism regarding Venezuela´s situation.
- 3yrs attended,+ 2 years led my schools team for Harvard´s Model UN in Boston. The two years I led it, we obtained large delegation awards, positioning my team above even Ivy Leagues and schools with more experience, resources and recognition.
- Volunteered in the rural indigenous area of Venezuela for diagnosis and solution of health and nutrition problems of these communities (2w)
- Languages: Spanish, English, French, Arab.
- Other (less relevant): Placed 41/9000+ and 47/6000+ honor roll for admission tests in college; University and municipality recognition for international representation of the country, participated in two other leadership conferences, nominated for best subject final essay by teacher. Traveled to 25 countries and twice as many cities abroad
Goal: Transition into strategy consulting to apply the macro business perspective I´ve been wanting to develop. Long term: Rebuild my country from the private sector as a regional corporate leader/entrepreneur.
- Target schools: Kellogg, INSEAD, Darden, Booth, Emory, Tuck. (Worth a try in H or W?) (round 1/2 of 2018)

Hi JohnAHD

Thanks for getting in touch! What an interesting back-story. And amazing that you can speak so many languages. What I like is that you have the luxury of time, something few MBA candidates have. I suggest is that you set up a free consultation with us to talk more in detail and get more personalized advice. To your point about money, there are a few schools who will waive your application fee if you attend some of their admissions events (Fuqua and Georgetown come to mind). Given your lower GPA, I would like you to have some safer options in your portfolio of schools so that's where Fuqua and Georgetown can come in handy. Your GPA also puts a bit more pressure on your GMAT score so ideally, I'd love to see 740+ if you can swing it. There's definitely a lot to like here -- your international background is very compelling! -- but our challenge is that we don't know what your competition looks like so it's best to plan for different outcomes.

I hope that helps! Definitely set up a free consultation with the first available mbaMission consultant.

Krista

Thank you so much for your reply!
I will continue on working to consolidate that score and take that consultation for sure.
Would you say I should discard the options or target schools I wrote and aim a bit lower? mbaMissionKrista
