Hi All,
This is my first post in this forum and I was wondering if people familiar with the MBA scene in India could offer some advice.
To provide some background, I came to the US about 6 yrs ago and did a Masters in EE from Cornell. After that I have had ~5yrs of experience working in customer data analytics for two of the biggest banks in the US. I am contemplating returning to India around 2011 to be close to my family. However I am also wondering if going for a 1yr MBA, say from a place like ISB might be a good idea for me to start my career in India.
The question I have is - How essential is an MBA in India to progress in the management chain? From my research online and from all the media hype around the MBA degree, I have a feeling that an MBA would be considered as the 'Minimum required qualification', if one seeks any kind of managerial role. I would like to stress that I am not talking about strategy/finance or other lofty management roles. I mainly aim to lead a team of analysts within say one of the MNC banks and progress gradually towards Sr. Manager, Director etc.....
Any ideas about the necessity of the MBA degree within the Indian corporate context would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance !!
