Dear Experts,
I urgently need advice. My first GMAT score, taken last year, was 630(Q47,V29). I had prepared from Kaplan Premier only and touching upon
OG 13 on an irregular basis.
With an eye on improving verbal, I started preparing from
MGMAT SC & CR since last couple of months. The improvement which I can easily feel has been significant. I do practise regularly from SC1000,
OG 13 and other valuable resources(both in SC & CR). My accuracy has quite significantly during this period.
However, my mock CATs are causing me worries.
GMAT Prep1:610(I am pretty confident that the test conditions were not ideal, were tired and sleepy....etc)
MGMAT1:660
MGMAT2:680
MGMAT3:640
Kaplan(Free mock):660
I have a target of 740 ie. take my verbal from V29 to V40+. Thus following from my scores I was confident that have reached halfway mark so far(V34).
I took the 2nd GMAT Prep and scored a dismal 640(Q48, V30)...4 incorrect in SC, 2 in CR and 7 in RC
The result has been pretty shattering to my confidence since I don't seem to have had any significant improvement in these last 2 months.
On analysis of
MGMAT and GMAT Prep, I can see a pattern though....RC is what is killing me !!
I have not focussed on RC at all in my preparation. But never thought that it will be this bad.
Accordingly, to cut a long story short(sorry for making it long), I have the following queries:
1. Is RC a critical area to bring down the score significantly?
2. How does one improve RC?
3. Is it possible to have a break up of number of correct/wrong in SC/CR/RC for a given score?
I would love and appreciate any general advice(apart from the above) in this regard and also love to connect with people having similar prep status.
P:S-I am a PhD aspirant in B2B marketing(post toiling 12 years in a sales job) and I presume that a minimum score of 700+ is required to get to a decent school(could not secure any success with 630 score last year though I had a limited number of applications).
Regards
Argha
