Hi everyone:
I took my first gmat on june 4th after about 2.5 months of studying. I was the one that asked about the option braek. I used this website a to get some idea for my studying plan and stragety. I got 650 (Q45 V 35). It's lower than what i expected because my Gmatprep score ranged from 690 to750 and scores from
MGMAT CAT ranged from 690-730. I think i am very disappointed with my quant. this is the lowest i have ever scored. I usually score around 48-50. I bought the gmat club challenge and i did 10 of them.
I am thinking about retaking it within 6-8 weeks. I think i was a little worn out toward the end of my exam esp the last month. i tried to take as many CAts as possible and in the last week of the exam, i managed to squeeze 5 cats..yeah crazy i dunno what i was thinking. Also, i am a runner but since i started prepping like crazy during may, i barely go for run and i think htat really affects me too. i am not sure. my test day experience wasnt the best. my appointment was at 115 pm. i got there around 1220 pm and the test center lady thought i was taking RN test and she requested an "athority of test". I showed her my apointment email that i got from gmac. She actually LOOOKEd and told me this is not what she was looking for. Then i started panicing because i did nto want to waste 250 bucks and not be able to take exam. she made me go to a kinko and check email to see if i got that email. i called her in kinko and told her i did not get anythign like that from gmac. thne she said, OH YOU ARE TAKING GMAT! yeah well, she apologized and i tried not to let this affect me but it's pretty hard since i was semi nervous before the test.
i think the essay was fine since i practiced with my practice exam. but for quant, i wasnt so confident and i did nto know why. i double checked so many times for first few questions then i was running behind. i managed to finish them on time except the last question. i clicked the answer first and had less than a minute left. so i was trying to think about this problem before time expired. Then all of the sudden the time is up!! i wasn't able to click next and yes. i am sure it did not go through. for verbal, i was quite relaxed because i knew i messed up my quant so i was sorta like whatever about verbal. i performed about the same level for verbal so i was happy about that since i did not let quant affect me too much. And because i have been taking full length CATs so i wasn't feeling very tired or maybe i just did not use any brain for my math at all.
so this is my first time experience. i am a little discouraged and i almost felt like not taking it again because i studied so hard and gave up all the social events for 2.5 months. But, i am really pissed about my math score. I got 800 on my GRE math section 2 years ago. so i feel like i should give it another shot and see if i can do better on math....
so i need you guys opinion on my study plan for retake...
so far for this prep, i finished all three books in OG and SC 1000 and 10 gmat club chanllenge. i think i will go back to redo some problems. and i am thinking about boost my verbal a bit by studying some LSAT problems and reading economist and such. i am almost done with
MGMAT cats ( one more left). how long do you think i will have to put in to improve my score? i am thinking about 25 hours a week because i dont' want to go as crazy as last time and got very worn out at the end.
i orderred
MGMAT's math books (word traslation, number properties, inequlities) and Kaplan 800 and LSAT questions. i am thinking i will spend two weeks or one week to finish the math books. I am not sure what i did wrong during the test. I think i am pretty solid on the basic stuff. So i should be able to finish the
MGMAT math within a week.
then i think i will work on verbal everyother day and math every other day and take just one cat per weekend.
i am a little discouraged and i am scared after anotehr six weeks or longer of prepping, i will get the exact same score. I know some friends who just cant do better on gmat no matter how hard they studied.
i would really appreciate some wise wisdom about retake and mentality and how long i should wait to retake and more detailed study plan. I dont' want to wait for too long to retake because i want my life back!!
thanks for reading this long post.
you guys are awesome!
