A higher GMAT score could potentially help with scholarships and recruiting if you are applying to a firm that cares about GMAT scores (consulting, finance, some tech)

thanks for your reply. i would just like to say that its not an mba program, its for an ms in accounting. ive already applied for this school and will most likely get in as the average applicant has a 520. but the question remains if its worth it to withdraw and improve my score and try again. seeing how i didnt study this time around, i feel like i can improve greatly. what i wanted to really ask was, can a higher than a schools gmat score help with admission if not scholarships if the rest of your app is weak? like if i were to score considerably higher than the average, will that help get scholarships?

It still doenst matter. You shouldnt be applying to a program that will define the rest of your career and life with something that you KNOW 100% to be a less good score than you can get (and the GMAT is a test that if you study, you score higher). Scoring higher = better school or better scholarship or both = more money for the rest of your life...

Sooo maybe its a good idea?

I didn't study for the GMAT and scored a 590. It's about accurate considering my practice tests. The only school I've applied for has an average of 520. I never thought I would do so well. I've always wanted to go to school in California, and now it seems possible. Not looking to be extremely ambitious, just wondering if its worth delaying my grad school journey for the hope that I will try next term with more schools. I've already completed my application for the current school and am waiting for the result. My GPA is pretty weak at 3.0. I feel if I studied, I can raise my score significantly. What should I do? I am not looking into top programs, just wondering if a score of say, 650, will help me in any way other than just getting admitted. If wrong forum, please redirect if you know of a better one. If I'm dumb, just let me know. Too late to apply now. Any help much appreciated.

I would love to help but would need a lot more information.

- Where did you go to undergraduate?
- What work experience do you have?
- What schools are you applying to?

Give me some more info and I'll help out. [email protected]

Best,
Scott

Undergraduate : North Texas
Zero professional experience
and want to apply to UC and CSU schools that I can realistically have a shot at.

3.0 GPA
two majors accounting and history
one thing to clear out, i am not pursuing an MBA. Just a masters in accounting for my CPA certification.

Thank you so much.

Edit: ive only applied to North texas, but after my gmat performance, i feel i can go to CA. I want help financially so I aim to score really high compared to schools over there. I am already at or beating average without studying. is it worth withdrawing my application for UNT this fall?
