Hello,

I think we are a lot of us in the same situation, having English as our 2nd language. Most of us succeeded to make this not a big problem in everyday's life, but when it comes to the GMAT there is a real wall building in front of us.

GMAT creators have been so good at making the verbal hard enough for a native speaker, that GMAT's questions are obviously extremely hard for us.

Do you guys have any ways to overcome this challenge and help to make everyone on the same level?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Ross2018,

The GMAT is a bit 'critical thinking' Test - and while you might find certain aspects of it to be challenging, the Exam IS predictable, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. The key word there is 'train' though; if you're looking to score at a significantly higher level, then you'll need more than just 'tips' or general advice to earn that higher score. Both the Quant and Verbal sections are built around logical patterns, so beyond knowing the content (for example, grammar/idiom rules for SCs), you also need to learn the common patterns that appear in CR and RC prompts (and the patterns that occur in the common wrong answer choices). Based on what you described, it's not clear how you've been studying - or how you approach the Verbal section as a whole, so it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) What 'steps' do you go through when dealing with a typical SC, RC or CR prompt?

Goals:
5) What is your goal score?
6) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
7) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
8) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
