Hello All Verbal experts,
I have been practicing for GMAT since a long time now. I am great on Quant -- can easily score between 47 to 51 out of 61.
But when it comes to verbal, I start having virtual nightmares in the time conditions. The problem is that my score ranges from 18 to 27 on the scaled scale EVERY TIME. The problem that is frsutrating me is that EVERY TIME I get a different score. I have tried following things to improve my score but nothing has helped.
1). If I don't time myself and just complete the test, I almost scroed 41 on the scaled score. This atleast proves me that alteast I know some basics.
2). Than I tired with just focusing on the first 20 questions and made sure that I get them right. (You know since first 15 are important for good score). While doing that, ran out of time and got most of my last questions wrong (I was justing guessing at random since I only had 25 mins to finish 21 questions and freaked out -- as usual).
3). Took OG and in one seating tried 40 questions of each SC, RC, and CR as fast as possible. Found out that need about 2 mins on SC and CR to get most of them right. RC needed some extra time (can't read that fast).
Now, this is the problem. As you all know, we only have 1.82 mins per questions and NOT 2 mins.
4). So know, I tired just focusing on SC and CR. Gave myself 2 mins per question. And 12 mins to complete all RC questions which meant quessing the answers without reading passages. With this new method, got 28 on the scaled score and was I the happiest man on the whole planet!!! Thought I found the trick and tired again. Guess what... scored 18 the second time...
God knows what going on with me... Kind of very frustrated right now... I given up my goal of scoring 700's in GMAT. I just want to score around 640 - 660. Currently, I can't even score 560 consistenly ... ranging from 520 to 620 ...
Gave gmat once and scored 540 -- 49 & 20 .. with AWA of 5.0
Guys, any help at time point in the game will be truely appreciated. Any suggestions or any remarks that you can add will be helpful. Want to know what am I doing wrong.

Practice, practice and practice is the need of the hour.
Initially, focus on accuracy (not on speed) and keep an eye on the clock at the same time. The more you practice, better the improvement will be.
Also, read thru this forum for various strategies, tips...on the Verbal section.
Your quant is great, so you have less to worry about. Use that to your advantage, work hard and you should do simply fine in the end!
