Hi Guys,
This is my first post.Sorry for a long one but have given a detailed description of my prep till now. I started my preparation in September with a plan of taking GMAT in November. I took 3 months break from work and started self-study. I was studying after a gap of 8 years so it took me few days to get back into study mode.
Although I did my undergrad studies in Engineering. I was shocked that I did not remember basics of Mathematics.
- I started with Manhattan’s Foundations of GMAT Math and studied it for 3 weeks.
- I took
MGMAT CAT after that and got 530 (Q32 V31).And realized its gona be an uphill task to reach my target score of 700+.I found my weakness in Verbal was SC and strength was RC.In quant all topics were equally weak but DS accuracy was less than PS.
- I planned of studying Quant for 1 month & Verbal for 1 month.
- Started my Quant preparation with
MGMAT strategy guide & GMAT prep now videos. I think now that it was a mistake to study same concept twice. So I ended up crossing my 1 month target and extended it to 6 weeks.
- After Quant, I started my Verbal Preparation with
MGMAT CR book. I gave 4 days to it.
- Then came time to study SC. Grammar has been my weakness since school and I never overcame it (you may find some in this post: p).I started with
MGMAT SC book but it didn’t make much sense to me so I had to go back to
MGMAT Foundations of Verbal book and studied it partially.
- Again took up the Manhattan SC book but was not able to learn much and was still getting majority of practice problems wrong. So searched online (YouTube) and started following Kengage SC fundamentals video by Nausheen Fida of COREGMAT. They were really nice.
- Although my SC preparation was half way (completed Subject Verb Agreement, modifiers, parallelism),I took GMAT Prep Test 1 and scored disheartening 520 (Q33 V31).Timing was a problem as I missed last 7 questions in Quant and 3 in Verbal. Also did not see much improvement in DS.
- After seeing my score I dropped the plan of giving GMAT in Nov and also applying for 2014.
- I joined office back and have not been studying since past 2 weeks.
Now I am rethinking my plan of action and need your help. I am planning to appear in Feb/March and I need 700+.
So should I join a classroom course (There isn’t any good institute here in Hyderabad, India. So will have to choose a mediocre one )
or do self-study (Did once but wasn't that effective. If yes, How to go about it this time)
Thanks in advance
... Will thank with Kudos too
