Hi all
I have been a silent observer on this forum and have been going through the posts. I have gathered a lot of information from this forum during my initial days of prep. It has been such a wonderful feeling to see people reaching new heights by learning from their failures. Really impressed by the story of Rhyme, laxie etc..
I gave my GMAT yesterday and scored a 630 (Q48, V28). I must improve this score by atleast 50 more points to stand a chance for the schools I am aiming for. I need help and suggestions from gurus here on my approach for round 2 of GMAT. First I'll detail the way I went with my round 1 and then list the approach for round 2:
Round 1:
General approach: Kaplan High score 2005, OG, Kaplan 800 and a little bit of 1000SC and 1000CR. Intersperse with full length tests (7 of them) on every weekend.
1) Started with Kaplan High score 2005 book, went thru Q basics, did practice questions and managed a ~90% hit rate.
2) Went thru V strategies in Kaplan High Score, did practice questions and managed a ~70% hit rate in SC, CR and a ~60% hit rate in RC.
3) Gave GMATPREP1 and scored 610 (Q41, V33).
4) Started with OG 10th ed PS and DS and again managed a ~90% hit rate. This gave me good confidence on Quant.
5) Gave Kaplan CD test 2 and scored 560 (Q39, V29).
6) Verbal is always a weak area for me. Verbal practice on OG 10th ed yielded a ~60% hit rate.
7) In between gave GMAT Prep 2 (Couldn’t wait till the end to see my potential

)and scored a 640 (Q48, V31).
8) Continued with OG verbal.
9) Gave Kaplan CD test 3 and scored 570 (Q40, V28).
10) Started and finished Kaplan 800 Math. Interesting techniques.
11) Gave GMATPREP re-install and score 720 !! (Q49, V38 – handful of repeats in Verbal).
12) Started and continued Kaplan 800 Verbal. Gathered a few fantastic RC techniques from this forum (especially Rhyme) and did a few passages. Managed ~80% hit rate.
13) Gave Kaplan CD test 4 and score 620 (Q 50, V32).
14) Started and finished OG PS and DS re-do based on
error log.
15) Gave GMAT PREP re-install test 2 and scored 690 (Q48, V38 – again handful of repeats in Verbal).
16) Re-do SC and CR in OG based on
error log in a mixed fashion (handpick few Questions from SC and CR, mix them and do them ~40 at a time).
17) Last 3 days before test went through idioms, grammar notes, math basics, few posts on GMATclub that have fantastic techniques on Math.
18) Gave the test. Scored a 630
Not convinced that this score represents my potential (although it may as well be

)and decided to give another shot in the first week of September as I have time till end of Sep to apply to the schools.
So decided on this approach for round 2:
1) Got hold of a grammar book from Wharton S2S forum. This has good details on the areas tested by GMAT (Attached below). Planning to go thru a few chapters for 1 week and make some notes on the critical points.
2) Review CR techniques from Kaplan 800. Not planning to do any more reviews of RC/PS/DS techniques as I believe that I am OK in these areas.
3) Do OG SC and OG CR (10th ed) alternate days 30 questions each. THROUGHLY GO THROUGH answer choices (both right and wrong choices) and UNDERSTAND why a choice is right or wrong. This should take ~3 weeks. Intersperse with my OG PS/DS question mix (
error log from round 1) during weekends (~60 questions per Saturday/Sunday).
4) Actively participate in Verbal forums in THE club.
5) Do 1 full length GMATPrep re-install just to have a re-feel of a FLT before the actual test.
6) Review my notes from Grammar book before the test day.
7) Give the test in the first week of Sep.
Do you guys think this approach will work? Any other suggestions/material/pointers to improve SC - as I think this is my wakest area..Comments from gurus appreciated..
PS: I am not in the US and I cannot get hold of MGMAT SC (I wish I could) where I live. So my only alternative is to go through this grammar book. Please go through this and advice if this OK to go through or I better spend my time on starting OG SC?
