Hi njhamilton10,

Your recent scores appear to support the idea that you're ready to take the Official GMAT, so taking the GMAT next week seems fine. I just have a few questions about those CATs:

1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
2) Did you take the CATs at the same time of day as you anticipate taking the Official GMAT?
3) Did you do ANYTHING while taking those CATs that would be considered unrealistic (pausing the CATs, skipping sections, taking them at your home, etc.)?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Thanks for the reply Rich.

1.) Absolutely. Every practice test I've taken has been with AWA and IR.
2.) Yes. Morning is my best time so I study, take practice tests and plan to take the test in the morning.
3.) I tried to make it as realistic as possible (down to my snack in the 8 min break :) ). But I took it at home because I don't have any other options. My home is by no means an ideal environment, there's lots of honking outside and construction in the apartment upstairs! I'm hoping the test center will, if anything, be better but it couldn't be much worse!

I would feel a lot more comfortable if I could see one more GMATPrep score and try and get at least one 650+ score on a KAPLAN/MGMAT test. But I have some time restrictions as well. I'm leaving for a 2 week vacation in 40 days, so ideally I'd like to take it in less than 9 days (since I think I'm just about where I need to be) and leave open the possibility of retaking the test before I leave if it doesn't go well. Other option would be to push 1-2 weeks but that would place all the pressure on one test!

I've worked with a lot of students who have 700-750 scores on GMATPrep, and 600-650 scores on company tests, and they always score in their GMATPrep range on test day, so I honestly wouldn't worry about the company test scores. And if you take another test, you'll want to confirm you're using a good pacing strategy, and you can only do that by working on realistically time-consuming questions. Some company tests aren't realistic that way.

And because of your schedule, I think it's clear that taking the test in nine days is your best option. There's always a remote chance things don't go well on test day (there could be a technical problem, someone unusually distracting next to you, etc) so if possible, you do want to have the option to retake just in case. Good luck - let us know how it goes!

Thanks Ian. The input based on your past students' experience is really helpful. I'm signed up for Saturday, I'll post my score afterwards.
