Hello All,
First of all, I am thankful to all GMAT Club organizers and members for all the motivation and knowledge sharing.
I have my exam next Thursday-- Aug 31, 2017. It will be my second attempt. My first one was in March 2017 and I got 610 (44Q, 31V). I was not sad as my mock tests were in the range of 550-620 (except for two out of 10, all were below 600). I used to do a lot of
MGMAT tests and used to be very depressed with my quant scores.I consider myself stronger in quant than in verbal, but I could only see my quant score going down week by week. My preparation was all over the place and the one thing that I did not do at that time was to take the advice from GMAT Club that
MGMAT quant is tough and to take the score with a grain of salt.
Anyways, I took a break and started preparing since the last week of June. I should have started my preparation earlier, but, what can I say, that is probably the reason why I am struggling or, I may have just wanted to forget my past struggle
My confidence has improved, but scores haven't.
Below are the scores of my tests:
The last two (most recent) are complete exams with IR and AWA.
All these are 2nd attempts except for Veritas; First attempts were in Feb 2017 (I could hardly recollect the answers during my second attempt, may be just a couple here and there):
Jun 24 :
MGMAT : Exam 1: 660 (V 35; Q 45)
Jun 25 : GMATPrep: Exam 1: 640 (V 31; Q 47)
Jul 02 :
MGMAT : Exam 2: 620 (V 32; Q 43)
Jul 09 : GMATPrep: Exam 2: 650 (V 32; Q 47)
Jul 16 :
MGMAT : Exam 3: 650 (V 39; Q 40)
Jul 25: Veritas : Exam 3: 620 (V 29; Q 46)
Jul 30 : GMATPrep: Exam 3: 600 (V 26; Q 47)
Aug 6 : GMATPrep: Exam 4: 640 (V 33; Q 45)
Aug 13 :
MGMAT : Exam 4: 630 (V 32; Q 44)
Aug 16: Veritas : Exam 4: 670 (V 34; Q 48)
Aug 20 : GMATPrep: Exam 5: 640 (V 29; Q 48) IR: 5
Aug 24 : GMATPrep: Exam 6: 650 (V 31; Q 48) IR: 5
I also took few GMAT club quant tests: First one is untimed but the rest are timed. I used to take one per day and when I found my score dipping, I stopped. Worst part is that I was able to do them right during my review. I may not have been in the right state of mind during those tests. Currently, I am just reviewing those that I got wrong one more time.
From first one to latest:
50, 45, 42, 44, 44, 47, 48, 44, 41, 41, 37, 36 (I am unable to decide whether I should continue these tests or review all my tests so far and review
OG and GMAT Prep questions)
On the Verbal front, the only pattern I could identify from my scores is that one of the three categories would be in the mid 20's and the other two would be in mid 30's. If I had concentrated my preparation on SC, I was able to get better score on my subsequent test but one of the other two took a dip. So, though I feel confident that I can do better, scores have not been very motivating.
Could someone please shed some light on what I can do to improve in the next handful of days.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Arvind.
