hello, i want to present my practice test results and get some feed back and recommendation. i think my results are weird.
Practice test 1 taken 1/16/2012. Test is the official practice test (gmatprep(tm)). score: 48 quant 29 verbal 640 total. note, i did not do the AWA section and actually took a 1 hour break after the quant section, so my score was inflated.
i spent time working on the verbal SC problems after the first prac test. Did not touch math problems at all
Practice test 2 taken 2/2/2012. Test is the first manhattan gmat practice test. score: 39 quant, 35 verbal 620 total. note, i did the AWA section and took 15 min break after completing the quant section.
On the first test, I was very nervous and was rushing to finish problems on the first practice test. I believe i finished all the problems on quant and did not finish the last 4 or 5 verbal problems.
On the second test, I went a lot slower and only finished 30 problems on quant and 35 on verbal.
i have two questions:
1. why did my math score drop so much? 2. while i am happy about the improved verbal score, how accurate is this improvement?
I would appreciate it a lot if anyone has any recommendation regarding what I should do from here, my goal is to get 740 eventually.

Hello there!
From what I have seen of the Manhattan GMAT tests, there are two ways in which they deviate from the GMATPrep tests:
1. The Quant questions are too heavily focused on Combinatorics and flashy Number Properties at the expense of Geometry, Sets and Word/Percentage Problems;
2. The Verbal questions are not particularly accuarate and perhaps a bit too easy.
This is not meant to pick on MGMAT: the second fault in particular is almost universal in GMAT test preparation non-official software. It is very difficult to emulate the Verbal questions and stay 100 percent in the spirit of the test.
If you can answer the following questions, I might be able to help you out with a bit more precision:
1. Is your first language English? If not, what is it?
2. What material have you used to practice on? Quant AND Verbal?
Thanks for the help! 1. First language is not English 2. Study materials used including the 8set mgmat study guide and official guide books (2nd Ed and the thick red book). I have not gone thru CR and RC books of the mgmt guide b/c I was told the strategy included isn't very useful.
When I analyzed my verbal results from the mgmat prac test, it showed that I was attempting Questions all in 7-800 level. However, I only did 34 questions before time ran out and at that point I dropped from a 95% to 77%. I do realize my verbal score is inflated on the second test though because the verbal test is easier than the real one
