Hello,
I'd like to ask if there are any ways I can boost up score to 680 from a current score of 550 (V27 and Q39). I have taken the test 3 times and it's my last chance and I really don't want to have another score of lower than 600 on my records. Previous scores: 2/10/09 total 320 (V12; Q23) -- really without much studying and not know what the test was like
9/11/09 total 550 (V28; Q36) -- studied really hard with Veritas Prep and did some OG questions and the GMAT Prep test (forgot the scores for the GMATPRep but i think ranges around 600-680)
10/15/09 total 550 (V27; Q39) -- thought I'd give it a try after a month and did mostly OG questions and GMATPrep tests again and I think at one point I scored a 710 or so on GMATPrep 1 and an upper 600s for GMATPrep 2 but still the actual score was the same and I was really disappointed. I thought the more I did GMATPrep, the more I'd do better on the actual test. But since I have done it some many times that it's not reflecting my true ability?
So I went ahead and submitted my application because I'm unemployed and wanted to go back to school ASAP and I just didn't want to wait for another year.
I decided to take it one last time to see if I can get a 680 because I know I'd be able to do it but for some reason, it's not reflecting my true ability.I didn't study since I last took the test in October. So when I picked it up again in mid Jan I felt like I had to do it all over again. I scheduled it on Feb 13, 2010 and enrolled in a private tutoring course for the test. He is really good at giving me specific study plans to cater to my needs and weaknesses but I'm not sure why I'm still not performing well on the practice tests. The questions that he gave me as homework were from OG. I also did a few of Princeton Review CAT tests.
Results are as follow:
PR CAT 1 - Total 600 (V 28 Q45) - I got a higher Q because I had to do the Math section twice for some reasons because it won't let me proceed to Verbal and I had to delete my first score which was Q 40
PR CAT 2 - Total 550 (V26 Q 39)
PR CAT 3 - Total 510 (V28 Q33)
GMAT Prep 1 - Total 600 (V31 Q42)
I know my weakness is timing coz I tend to spend a lot of time on calculations and usually have to guess on the last 8 questions on Quant. Also, combinatorics and probabilities, coordinate geometry are my weaknesses. As for Verbal, I tend to use a lot of time on RC and CR.. for RC even if i really on a steady pace and note the structure of the passage, I still get the detail questions wrong when I go back to find the answers in the line.. so I spend lots of time in RC. For CR, i usually get about 5 questions wrong for this section, probably i just dont have the right logic. For SC, it varies, some easier ones I can do it pretty fast and get 3 wrong for the test, but sometimes I get up to 6 wrong.
I read alot about the Manhattan Number Properties book and Power Score CR book. My new retest date is March 13, 2010. Do you think it's still worth buying new books now? or just focusing on doing OG and GMATPrep tests?
I really appreciate it if you could give me any advice as I really need to get it up to 680.
Thank you very much!!
Chrissy
