In RC I can solve LSAT passages given in the powerscore RC bible with around 80% accuracy. But when I do OG passages my accuracy fluctuates from 50% to 75%. I don’t know why is this happening. And for each RC I take 2-3 min more than required.
LSAT RC Bible is very lengthy is it advisable to complete the whole book or just do the passages, if I want to take GMAT after 45 days?

Hi Anushka,

I understand that solving RC questions can be quite challenging if not used the right strategies. It is important to use the right reading strategies to understand the main point of the passage. Let me elaborate it to you.

To solve RC questions, you have to read the passage with an open mind, leaving all the unnecessary baggage. GMAT gives you ample amount of information in the passage. It does not test your knowledge on topics such as physics, political science. You need to read the passage in an inferential manner so that you can draw the right inferences and understand the intention behind writing the passage. There is a process called “Involved and Evolved Reading” which helps you read a passage effectively. You can refer to the following video to understand the strategy of “Involved and Evolved Reading”.

My suggestion would be do not time yourself while learning. The main focus is to learn the right methodology. Once you practice a few questions by using this methodology, it would come as a natural practice to you. Then you can start focusing on the time constraint. And do not have this thought on your mind that you have to read a passage within specific time. Give the required time to read the passage. Focus on understanding the passage clearly. Only then you will be able to solve the questions.

Hope it helped! All the best!

Thanks a lot for your guidance. But keeping in mind I only have 45 days with me, don't in need to start working with timings?

Hi Anushka,

The things is, what's the point on focusing on timing while solving questions when you don't get them right/ The ultimate goal is to get the right answer. So, it is really important to focus on the process. The process is a little time consuming but will definitely fetch you good results. But as you said, improving your RC skills in 45 days can be quite challenging but not impossible. You need to focus on the right parameters and follow a proper study plan. I would need a few more details for that.

  • Is RC the only area of struggle?
  • How many hours can you dedicate for studies?
  • Do you struggle with any specific types of questions such as main point, detail based questions?

Answers to these questions will help me guide you better. You can always write back to me here or a better way would be to connect over a call and discuss things. This way we can quickly narrow down all the possibilities and make a study plan. The call is absolutely free. So, you can schedule a free consultation call using the below link.
