I am waiting for the response on my concern. Is it that complicated?

Hi ssagar1801,

My apologies for not getting back to you sooner; your post must have gotten 'buried.'

Based on everything that you've described, the biggest 'issue' during your studies was your 'consistency.' The GMAT is a really specific 'event' that you CAN train for. However, if you deviate in how you take your CATs, then your scores can deviate as well. By skipping sections and taking the CAT at a different time of day, you were training yourself for a DIFFERENT 'event.' (and usually these type of deviations lead to 'inflated', unrealistic scores). Thus, when you got to Test Day, your mind and body were not properly prepared for THAT event and your scores dropped.

I have a few questions about Test Day itself:

On Test Day:
1) How did you sleep the night before your GMAT?
2) How long was the ride to the Test Center from your home?
3) Were there any distractions at the facility or during the Test?
4) What did you do during the two 8-minute breaks?
5) Did you finish any sections early?
6) Did you have to rush to finish any sections (and guess on questions just to finish on time)?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi Rich,

Below are my replies to your queries:

1) How did you sleep the night before your GMAT? Well, I slept quite early. I got up early as well, almost 1 hour before alarm.
2) How long was the ride to the Test Center from your home? I used cab to the test center, and the ride was pleasant.
3) Were there any distractions at the facility or during the Test? No, not at all.
4) What did you do during the two 8-minute breaks? In first break I took Redbull. In second one I had chocolate.
5) Did you finish any sections early? I finished Quant section 2-3 minutes before time.
6) Did you have to rush to finish any sections (and guess on questions just to finish on time)? This situation did not arise in Quant. But in Verbal section, I guessed 1-2 questions because I got lost in the words of the questions. I could not even concentrate properly on last RC.

I'm done with my 4th attempt.

I started GMAT preparation with dream of getting into the best colleges. I gave GMAT 4 times, in 1st attempt I got 540, in 2nd got 630, in 3rd got 590, and in 4th got 600. For obvious reasons I cancelled my last 2 scores.

I don’t know the answer to the following questions, hence asking on this form:

1) Why did I get those last 2 scores? I was doing well in my mocks. In GMAT prep mocks I was getting from 650 – 700. In verbal section, I never got less than 30 in any mock.
2) What are the options available for me?
3) Do I stand any chance in those colleges that encouraged me to prepare for GMAT?

I read lots of blogs that conclude with "HIGH GMAT SCORE IS ESSENTIAL TO GET INTO THE BEST COLLEGES". So, does that mean I cannot get into any?
Will highly appreciate if experts can guide/suggest me here.

The 630 may be enough. I believe it is true when business schools say it is a holistic process. There are schools in the US that are place more value on high scores than others, but if you're not targeting those schools, I say take a chance and apply. If you believe you have a good profile despite your score, move on and do your best in your applications. After taking the exam multiple times, they'll know that you tried your best. I would not have cancelled the last two scores as it gives them more proof of your determination.
