Kaplan 2006 is a good starter. See if you have any deficiencies and work on these. I was horrible at the math so I bought the Kaplan Math workbook. There are specific books for virtually all the areas of the GMAT. Once you feel comfortable with the format of the test and you have approached any severe deficencies buy the Official Guide, 11th Edition (referred to as the OG) and complete EVERY problem. Spend as much time on the answers as the questions themselves. This book should take a substantial amount of your overall studying time. You'll eventually recognize that GMAT tests the same concepts over and over. Once you get to this point you'll start feeling better about it.
Also, spend a lot of time on this website. Not only is the content amazing but the environment is nothing but supportive and helpful. Read all the GMAT Experience... stickies. They'll motivate you.
Good luck!
