Hi GDG,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

In addition, "review" is an exceptionally important part of the GMAT training process; your ability to define WHY you're getting questions wrong is essential to defining the areas that you need to work on (and the specific things that you need to 'fix'). As such, I'd like to know a bit more about your last CAT. While a full Mistake Tracker would provide a lot more information, there are some basic questions that you should be able to answer (and the more EXACT you can be with your answers, the better):

After reviewing each section of this recent CAT, how many questions did you get wrong....
1) Because of a silly/little mistake?
2) Because there was some math/verbal that you just could not remember how to do?
3) Because the question was too hard?
4) Because you were low on time and had to guess?
5) How many Verbal questions did you 'narrow down to 2 choices' but still get wrong?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi All,

I have been preparing for GMAT since quite some time now (started in March 2020 (covered concepts) but full swing from August 2020 for exam mode). I am continuously struggling in verbal score and haven't improved much and hence need your expert inputs.

Here is what I have studied so far:
1. Purchased one of the renowned GMAT courses online and have covered the concepts, revised it numerous times and have also completed their question bank
2. Have done Official Guide

Following are my test scores:
1. I gave my very first test in 2019 when I was completely out of touch from studies and scored 550
2. In 2020, after preparing for 1 month, I gave a GMATprep test again and scored 680
3. Have taken 5 mocks during Sept-Oct from the GMAT course that I purchased and my score has been more or less stagnant - 650-680 range in those mocks (Quant - 50/51 and Verbal - 28-32)

As I am not able to achieve my target accuracies despite following up a rigorous study plan, I really need your opinion on how I can improve and get my target score >750. My plan is to take GMAT in next 1 month.

Pleased to get on a 1:1 discussion with the experts who can help me improve and can share my overall profile as well. Please help. #GMAT #GMATstudy

Hi GDG,

As you said that you have taken an online course to study, ask yourself whether you are following the strategies taught to solve questions. Because, there are high chances that you are not using the right methodology. I understand that inculcating a new methodology can be quite lethargic but that's the only way you can improve your score. Verbal questions can be very tricky and you would need some solid strategies to eliminate the four incorrect answer choices and choose the right one.

Having said that, it would be pre-mature to conclude or suggest you anything without knowing the actual cause that's holding back your score. It would be great if we can connect over a zoom conference call and solve a few questions together. This way I can rightly evaluate whether there's any flaw in your approach.
