Breaking Down the Info:
Set the cost of the largest candleholder as \(x\). The costs range from \(x\) to \(x - 0.25*5 = x - 1.25\). Then we have an arithmetic sequence of 6 terms.
The median of this set is \(\frac{x + x - 1.25}{2} = x - \frac{1.25}{2}\), which is also the average, so the sum would be \(6(x - \frac{1.25}{2}) = 6x - 3.75 = 6.75\) since the total cost is 6.75.
Finally, \(6x = 3.75 + 6.75 = 10.5 = 12 - 1.5\) and \(x = 2 - 0.25 = 1.75\)
