All,
So I took the GMAT yesterday and scored substantially lower than my practice scores. In the past Month, I've gotten a 620 (
MGMAT), 620 (GMAT PREP) and 660 (GMAT Prep). With 37-39 (Quant) and 38-41 (Verbal). The very first time I took a GMAT test (3 months ago) I scored a 560 and I took that cold. However, yesterday I scored an abysmal 540 27 (Quant) and 37 (verbal). I've taken all tests under test-like conditions.
I think it was the nerves and the fact that I didn't eat much the day of the exam because of an upset stomach. I also went to play basketball earlier in the day in order to calm down, but after playing I felt extremely lightheaded. During the entire quant section, I was feeling light headed like I was going to pass out. Verbal I felt fine.
I think the score has to do with my not being in optimal condition, so I plan on studying at a relaxed pace this next month (1-2 hours a day) and just taking it again in a month. My goal is a 650, but I'd be happy with anything even close to 650.
Thoughts?
Your mock CAT scores are well in line with your target score. I can clearly see that the problem is with the way in which you are appearing for the mock CATs.
You can get the most out of your mock CATs if you give the entire test in one sitting and replicate the conditions. Also, you can really score big on the Quants part and boost up your score.
The GMAT is not only a test of your knowledge but also a test of your stamina. It is like a marathon. You just cannot train for a marathon by running 4 10ks.
You have to run the 42.2 km in one go to train for the marathon.
If you have not done it this time around, I would recommend you to give the mock CATs will all the sections and try to replicate the exam like conditions.
The results would be just fine
All the best!
