Hi nassib787,

With GMAC's new policies, you CAN see your Unofficial Scores on Test Day before deciding whether to submit or cancel them.

Can I see my score before I choose to cancel my result?

Yes, you are able to preview your scores at the test center before deciding to cancel or accept them. You can read more about this policy here: https://www.mba.com/the-gmat-exam/gmat-exam-scoring/your-score-report/preview-your-gmat-score.aspx.

Thanks,

Official GMAT,

I just called your customer service line to learn more about how score cancellations are reported and am confused by what I was told.

The representative explained that if I took the test after July 19th and cancelled my scores and then re-took again and kept my scores, the final score report would not indicate a score or cancellation remark for my second attempt BUT recipient schools will know that I took the exam a total of three times. I am very confused by what I was told. Can you please clarify?

Specifically, if I take the GMAT again after July 19th and decide to cancel but want to send my initial report to schools (from my first test date last month), will the schools know that I took the exam twice or will they only see my first score?

Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for your question on this new feature. First off, to clarify, everything depends more on when you request the score report vs. when you take the exam. That being said, any scores reported after July 19th will not show any previous cancels on the score report. There will be no indication of the amount of times the exam was taken, unless scores were reported. For example, if you tested in January and canceled your scores, then tested again in March and kept your scores, schools you indicated at that time would have received the score report with a “C” for January and a score for March. However, after July 19th, if you were to then send an additional score report to another school, all they would receive is a score for March, with no indication of the cancelled January score.

Let us know if you have any other questions we can help with.

Thanks,
Jeremy

So in the example you've quoted above, schools will get to know just the March score AND also that the candidate attempted the exam 2 times? (Since the March scores are reported) Please clarify.

Hello,

The schools will not see any of the attempts that were cancelled. In the example provided above, the schools will only see the March attempt and score.

To further clarify: schools will only see the scores that have been accepted, and there will be no record that a candidate took an exam if the score was cancelled. So, if a candidate took the exam three times, and cancelled one score, schools will only see that the candidate took the exam twice. However, we discovered and repaired a bug in our score reporting system recently, so if the score report was sent between July 19 and August 18, then it’s possible that the schools received a score report with an empty column, from which they could figure out that a score was cancelled. This bug has been repaired, but if you're concerned that one of these abnormal reports was sent to your schools, please contact us directly and we can look up your account and confirm exactly what was sent.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Jeremy

To confirm then, this implies that, after July 19th, if I take the official GMAT test and am not pleased with the score, I can cancel it with zero evidence to the B-School that I ever took the test? The only negative is essentially that I spent $250 for nothing?

Yes and it is better than that, if you order a score report after the 19th, regardless of when you took a test and canceled your score, the cancelation will not show up.
At the same time, if you take one on July 19th and cancel, you can be back at the test center on Aug 6th with another $250 in your hand.... just keep in mind, you can take the test 5 times in a 12-month period.
Is this is normal 12 calendar month period or will count 12 months from my first GMAT . Example If i have taken GMAT on 27th July 2015 , will my 5 GMAT s be valid till 31st December or will the 12 month be considered till 27th July 2016 .

Hello,

No, it is not based on a calendar year; it is based on a 12-month period. So, in your example, if you took the GMAT exam on 27th July 2015, you would be able to take it up to four more times before 27th July 2016.

Thank you for your question.

Hi GMAC Team,

What I want to know is whether i can schedule the exam for the 16th day or the 17th day. Since it says once in every 16 days I would like to think that it will be the 16th day if i include today ( the exam day). While i understand that i can try and schedule and the system will alert if it is not allowed, but i am avoiding the risk of paying 250 dollars accidentally just in case i decide not to write on the 16th day. Right now i am analysing my options and wanted to know if i can include the 16th day ( that is the 11th November 2016) in my available choices.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Regards,
Shradha

Hello GMAC Team,

I am curious about this as well. I was planning on taking the test on December 17 and was curious if I could re-take the exam as early as January 1 (I am looking for the concept of the timing, not whether or not test centers will be open on New Years) or if I needed to wait until January 3? The policy language from the website is ambiguous with regards to whether or not test days are included in the 16-day wait period: "Candidates have the option to retake the GMAT exam after a 16-day time period."

I don't feel as though I should need to explain why I would want to do this, but for the peace of mind of those questioning my methods (which probably need to be questioned haha):

1. I have a really weird work schedule that is hard to get time off and I will not be able to take the exam on January 3rd if the GMAT policy so requires that I wait that long between tests (in which case I would not take the exam on Decemeber 17th to give myself more time to prepare)
2. I wanted to try to take the exam on the 17th so I could have my score (if it was good or close to good) so that I could know which grad schools to shoot for with January applications (I just started studying this week and this is the year I need to start school if I'm going to get it done).

I know, I know... Shouldn't have waited 'til the last minute

Much appreciated
-Z

You will get the following message if you try to schedule an appointment within that 16 day window:

Graduate Management Admission Council® policy requires at least 16 days between appointments. You previously scheduled an appointment for [date]. Please choose a different appointment at least 16 days after that date.

You're not going to lose 250 dollars if you use mba.com to check.

Thanks for the reply, but I cannot schedule 2 exams at once. Am I missing something in your recommendation or is my understanding of signing up for the exam at MBA-dot-com flawed? I do not want to sign up for the exam on December 17th if it will PREVENT me from being able to take the exam again BEFORE January 3rd (i.e. I'm not worried about the money, I'm worried about losing an opportunity).
