Hi!
I am new to the GMATClub!
I'm going to schedule my exam for the 20th of April (i can't delay it any longer as I have a couple of University application deadlines). I have booked the whole week prior the exam off to give me an extra boost before the exam. (i.e. lots of practice tests).
I therefore have about 10 weeks to study. Which doesn't seem a lot! I started studying on Monday 6th February via the KAPLAN Book, 2011. I am still working my way through the "Math refresher" and must say it's insane how I feel brain dead (it's been a while since i've done high school math").
My plan is to initially read through the Kaplan book and later study/practise what I have read by attempting questions. Obviously at first i think i will have to go back a lot and check the procedure of how to work out the exercises. I'm hoping i can get through the maths part in 1month.
The reading part in about 3 weeks.
And hopefully the last 3 weeks will be of intense practice tests!
In addition, I have seen a few places in London where you can go and sit a mock GMAT test in very similar exam conditions. These still cost a bit (£50) so i'm wondering if its worth it.
I'm a bit afraid to do a gmat test (to check my current status)at the time being as i really feel like i dont know much at all and im afraid the result will scare me....maybe in 3 weeks or so I will go for it...what do you guys think?

I don't like "intense practice tests". That's a sure way to burn out.
The GMAT is designed to stratify people. Taking back to back practice tests w/o spending time assessing what happened, obstacles and figuring out how to overcome them is not advisable.
Even if you're afraid "you don't know much" and are using this to NOT take a practice test, take one. Studying blindly works for very few people. Start off your prep with a practice test. Review and identify your weakest subsections up to your strongest and study in that order. Fit practice tests in when you feel you've made some solid headway and assess progress (or lack of and figure out WHY there is a lack of progress). Your score is only as good as your weakest subsection.
Most test takers have reported better outcomes by starting off with a practice test, developing a study plan based on the practice test and maintaining error logs an. Studying blindly works for a minority of test takers.

At the minimum, you should download the practice test software from mba.com. Even if you don't time yourself all in one sitting, you should at least go through questions to get familiar with the question types and the test interface. You should not delay this first step.
It is very easy to delay and delay. Don't let that get to you. Make it happen - even if it's a lame attempt at your first practice test for the sole purpose of familiarizing yourself with what gets tested and what doesn't.
