Do we have sectionwise adaptiveness in GMAT exam ?
like performance in 1st section affects the toughness in next section ?

Is taking GMAT mock test series better or full coaching is preferable?

Yes.

You’re comparing two different things.

Hello everyone, I’m prepping for the GMAT exam in a few months, but I’m pretty confused on what books to buy. From what I understood the OG is the best to practice, and the Manhattan is the best for building the basics and understanding the problems. I was more oriented to buy the Manhattan first, but I encountered a small problem.
I have a bonus to buy some books only shipped by Amazon.it (since i live in italy) and I can only find the 7th version of the Manhattan Prep Book, what is the main difference with the 8th version? I will take the GMAT Focus Edition

I mean like for practice would mock tests plus self prep be better? Or coaching and mock tests? Is coaching class worth it?

Hi Giovanniserra03, welcome to GMAT Club. The 7th edition was published in the GMAT "Classic" era, i.e. pre-GMAT Focus. The 8th edition was published in 2024 specifically tailored for GMAT Focus Edition. 7th Edition has three books in the set, while 8th edition has only two (All the Quant + DI and All the Verbal).

7th Edition is still usable, although not ideal. You need to know what content to skip. Specifically, 1. Skip Geometry in Quant (but coordinate geometry is still tested in GMAT Focus). 2. Skip Sentence Correction in Verbal. 3. Use IR to study for DI and ignore the essay part.

But ideally I’d suggest to try to find the 8th edition. I personally think 8th edition is better organized, and there is some minor difference in the flavor of GMAT Focus questions, for example in non-math DI/DS, compared with the previous generation questions. Manhattan 8th edition books address these difference specifically.

Oh okay thank you so much for the explanation, the main thing that confused me is that on amazon it says: "Fully updated for the GMAT Focus! Manhattan Prep’s All the Quant + DI guide is an updated version of the All the Quant guide (7th Ed)" and it shows with 2 books (GMAT All the Quant + DI and GMAT All the Verbal) so I was thinkning it was updated almost the same as the 8th version.
If i have to choose between the Manhattan 8th edition and the OG, which one should I choose? I knoe they are complementary, but I need to choose one to start with if there is an answer to this

You need both type of resources: Manhattan is for learning the concept, theories and strategy. OG is really just for practice questions. The review materials in OG are quite limited.

Now, if there is budget constraint, there are cost-effective ways to do both. There are a lot of free videos/playlists/classes on GMAT Club’s Youtube channel. And virtually all OG questions can be found on GMAT Club. So you can spend very little on these two categories.

If budget is not an issue, you are just asking about the order to study, I’d suggest starting with Manhattan. Actually, if you buy the Manhattan set, they have some materials to let you know which OG questions to go with different subject topics. So you can learn the concept from Manhattan, and practice relevant OG questions.

Along with the books you should get a piece of paper with instructions to register. You can register an account on Manhattan’s website, then you’ll see questions banks associated with your books. If you buy the All the GMAT set, you’ll also get Advance Quant question bank, along with the standard Quant, Verbal and DI question banks.

OG is almost a must. There are many different forms of prep tools - books, online course, free materials on the Internet... Here is an overview of the prep journey: gmat-study-plan-217827.html

Hope I don’t confuse you further... All the best.
