Hello everyone, I’m prepping for the GMAT exam in a few months, but I’m pretty confused on what books to buy. From what I understood the OG is the best to practice, and the Manhattan is the best for building the basics and understanding the problems. I was more oriented to buy the Manhattan first, but I encountered a small problem.
I have a bonus to buy some books only shipped by Amazon.it (since i live in italy) and I can only find the 7th version of the
Manhattan Prep Book, what is the main difference with the 8th version? I will take the GMAT Focus Edition
Hi
Giovanniserra03, welcome to GMAT Club. The 7th edition was published in the GMAT "Classic" era, i.e. pre-GMAT Focus. The 8th edition was published in 2024 specifically tailored for GMAT Focus Edition. 7th Edition has three books in the set, while 8th edition has only two (All the Quant + DI and All the Verbal).
7th Edition is still usable, although not ideal. You need to know what content to skip. Specifically, 1. Skip Geometry in Quant (but coordinate geometry is still tested in GMAT Focus). 2. Skip Sentence Correction in Verbal. 3. Use IR to study for DI and ignore the essay part.
But ideally I’d suggest to try to find the 8th edition. I personally think 8th edition is better organized, and there is some minor difference in the flavor of GMAT Focus questions, for example in non-math DI/DS, compared with the previous generation questions. Manhattan 8th edition books address these difference specifically.
