I would like to have a profile evaluation for ISB PGP.

Note : No GMAT score yet.

Academic Background :

12th : 78.9% (Science)

Graduation :
B.Sc Nautical Science from Indian Maritime University, Chennai
CGPA : 8.4

Work Experience :
3 years of experience as a Navigation Officer in the Merchant Navy. My role involves navigation planning, ship operations, safety management, leadership during watchkeeping, coordination with multicultural crews, and handling responsibilities in high-pressure environments.

International Exposure :
As part of my profession, I have travelled to more than 18 countries and experienced diverse global work environments, cultures, and operational practices.

Leadership & Responsibilities :

- Managing operational responsibilities onboard ships
- Working in teams with multinational crew members
- Handling critical decision-making situations during navigation and operations
- Organizing multiple college events during graduation

Extracurricular Achievements :

- National level science model making participant
- State level football player
- Active participation in college events and extracurricular activities

Career Goals :
I aim to transition from the Merchant Navy into management through an MBA and build a career in leadership and global business management.

Please evaluate my profile realistically for ISB PGP and guide me on:

- My chances of getting into ISB
- Ideal GMAT score target
- Strengths and weaknesses in my profile
- How ISB views Merchant Navy applicants
- What areas I should improve before applying

hi everyone... I m currently facing a dilemma of whether to give gmat or not ... as i have 0 years of work experience and i graduated in 2024 , so technically gap years too.... but i am getting scores around 750 in mocks .. my profiles are 10th - 90%, 12th - 95% college- du, ipcw history hons- 6.95 cgpa ... and i have cleared delf b1 level french exam recenty... plus i have a few extra curriculars
I am in a similar problem of a gap year because of personal reasons.
Idk if this makes my profile too negative now

Indeed @Sailorkaushal; candidates with Merchant Navy profile are a natural fit for Operations roles.

However, over the years, a significant number of folks from Merchant Navy seem to be motivated to pursue an MBA, making it competitive.

Hence, see if you can target a 665+ on the GMAT.

Hi Sailorkaushal,

At this stage, the primary focus should be on the GMAT and targeting a score as close as possible to ISB’s average, ideally around 675. I agree with the other comments that the applicant pool from merchant navy backgrounds has become increasingly competitive over the years, so being around or above the average score would strengthen your chances significantly.

Post MBA, your background could align well with careers in operations, supply chain, and general management roles.

All the Best!

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.

Hii all, I am an Indian female applicant with 3 years of work ex. BBA from a tier-3 college. Worked ~2 years as a founding member at an AI startup (operations, support, growth, process building, stakeholder management, then worked as Senior Category Manager at Urban Company for 9 months. Now joined another AI startup as EIR.

BBA: IGDTUW, 8.62 CGPA
12th: 88%
10th: 88%

Extracurriculars: Diploma in Kathak, PR head of college Dramatics Society, Club Service Director of a Rotaract Club, Founded college mental health society.

How competitive would my profile realistically be for ISB and other top Indian/global B-schools? Biggest concerns in my profile and what should I strengthen over the next 6?

I am v motivated but I am scared that I don’t have a college brand or any company brand to my name. Another concern is that I have a fairly short stint at UC.

For me, is ISB even worth trying? And If yes, what score range should I target?

Hi guys, I wanted to know about Jamboree Andheri, as I am little rusted in studies but can turn it around with regular Study schedule. Is Jamboree a good place to study GMAT for a guy who needs to start from the scratch ’Basic quants’, ’Foundation’? Do they help with the basics too?. Or if you have any other classes then please let me know 😊.
