Also considering I only would have 2 years of work ex if I apply now?
Ah, my bad. You’re right, the top 20 are way harder to get into. You could still make the top 25 with a little more work ex, but for anything above that would recommend 5 or more years of work ex and a higher GMAT score.

Though, if you have extraordinary work ex that includes promotions, leadership roles, heading big projects, great LORs and whatnot, you could actually reduce the number of years of work ex or your score (unless you’re targetting MBBs after graduation) proportionatly. There’s no cut-off for either the score or work ex, other variables can help even things out as schools look at applications holistically.
The score and work ex help people with ordinary Joe backgrounds such as myself :)

I am similar to you bro

I’ll try the old pattern tomorrow and then decide based on my score

I believe continuing with classic is better as the preparation and both mocks/ practice revolves around it.

There are no official deadlines but It appears you cannot register for the old GMAT Past March 31, 2024. Usually it is a 6-month rolling window but that date has been stuck for a week now, so that will most likely be the sunset date for the Classic GMAT.

Should I start preparation from the weak part - verbal? Or should I pick quants? How should one go about it?

Through grit teeth, tears and with the fear of these questions appearing on the exam.

On a more serious note, having a teacher who works well with your learning pattern really helps.

And if you can, I would recommend going even deeper. There’s a reason you don’t like a topic. Go after that reason and if you can handle it, the rest comes naturally. Many times we have a weakness for some reason and if you want to really high score, you have to address those weaknesses in the process.

I started my preparation with the easiest topic for me. There’s no reason to fight the boss at the beginning of the game 😎… makes the game somewhat short and not so much fun to play. I recommend starting with your strengths and Building on it. You’ll gain some helpful study skills and helpful tools that will help you face the harder question types.

That’s great advice, thank you! I never thought to think of the psychology behind disliking a topic. It makes so much sense to weed out the root cause of a weakness and not just treat the symptoms!!

This is not easy by the way but it’s the most helpful and valuable approach. This way you’re not just tackling reading comprehension or problem-solving, you’re tackling a skill you can use later in your life and you can fix an issue you had maybe since elementary school Because you missed a certain topic or got distracted by your friend and decided that you did not like math for example or you decided you did not like grammar. Going back and fixing these issues requires going pretty far back and digging through some old past Potentially. But it’s super rewarding and very empowering because you no longer tethered to those limitations and you end up with the recipe how to change almost anything about yourself…

This is such an inspiring message... one that really hits home. I have a deep rooted fear of Math from my early childhood and it’s already making appearances in my ability to perform on the exam. I thought the more I studied, the lighter that fear would become, but that’s definitely not the case.

Would you happen to have any tips on overcoming such fears?

I have booked to take GMAT focus late December but now planning to reschedule to early December and put some extra effort. This is to get ready for R2 application deadlines. I was confused for a bit if I should take the regular GMAT and then take focus later if needed. However finally decided to just get on with FOCUS edition.

I am new to GMAT club as well. not sure if there is a study group here for people wanting to take the FOCUS edition. I would love to participate and discuss in preparing for the FOCUS edition. I have just started my preparations a week ago.

Any suggestions for FOCUS edition Full length practice tests other than the ones from MBA.com ? Looks like most of the free tests are still the current GMAT format.
