Hey Leverandon,
Thanks for the tips. Where do you teach? Where are you in the app process?
Hey Sarah,
I teach at the Harlem Children's Zone Promise Academy II as a Teach for America teacher. Its a charter school in Harlem. We actually had a book published about our program a few weeks ago by a New York Times writer. Its called Whatever it Takes by Paul Tough. I was in no way a part of the book and we didn't even realize it was coming out until our principal told us. Its a pretty good read and a fair look at the challenges of teaching in Harlem.
I applied to five schools during Round 1 of the application season: Michigan (Ross), Yale SOM, Northwestern (Kellogg), Pennsylvania (Wharton), and Virginia (Darden). I'm going for a JD/MBA so I was looking for schools that had top 14 law programs attached to them. I will also be applying to Columbia Round 1 (their R1 is a lot later than the rest). So far, I received an interview invite at Michigan, a rejection with no interview (
) from Wharton and everyone gets an interview from Kellogg. I have yet to hear anything from Yale and Darden. For Round 2 I plan to apply to NYU (Stern) and Chicago (Booth). I may throw in an app to Harvard and UCLA depending on how industrious I am feeling and what happens with my Round 1 schools.
Have you taken the GMAT yet? Are you looking to begin business school in Fall '09 or are you planning on applying during the following season? Hope that this helps!
