Hi,

Can someone kindly suggest me which usage of not only but also is correct-

1. By the time he was thirteen, Mozart had not only composed sonatas, but he had also performed before royalty.

2. By the time he was thirteen, Mozart had not only composed sonatas, but also performed before royalty.

3.By the time he was thirteen, Mozart not only had composed sonatas, but also had performed before royalty.

Regards,
Veenu

Ok, Now i understand 1 is correct here, but i believe both 2 and 3 are also correct.

I think the first one is absolutely incorrect since Mozart (he) does not have to be repeated after 'but also' since it comes before 'not only'.

The second one is correct IMO and the third one is plain weird.

Hey Experts,

KarishmaB AjiteshArun ExpertsGlobal5 DmitryFarber

Sentence - By adding a value menu and allowing customers to choose side orders such as salads and baked potatoes, Wendy’s has not only lured customers away from Burger King and McDonald’s, but has also enticed them to choose fast-food over meals prepared by finer dining establishments

Doubt - Isn't but has also incorrect? Shouldn't it be but also enticed? If not, then please do explain.
