B) three times as many grapes as it did
C) as much as three times the grapes it has-- Has is awkward. Moreover , much is used to Non-countable entities

Remove any triple or tripling...they should be used in the role of verb not noun.Eliminated A, E
Second clause should be in past, so 'has' is wrong in C. Eliminate C
"as there were" gives an impression that sentence is talking about something that is fixed., So eliminate D
Leaves with B....correct answer.
