Hey GMATClub Community!
I have an offer from NTU and HKUST ($$) and am expecting to hear back from NUS soon.
I'm quite confused on which program to opt with and would really appreciate insights. Here are my considerations so far -
1. The Singapore job market right now is not great. MBA grads are struggling to find opportunities. This is exacerbated by the visa rules and compass system.
2. The HK job market is slightly better in terms of opportunities (# wise) but there's a language barrier. Most of these opportunities require Mandarin proficiency (I can learn but idk about achieving 'proficiency' in a year)
3. Singapore businesses seem better connected to the rest of Asia, HK has a growing influx of companies that primarily serve China. There's a trend of MNCs moving offices from HK to Singapore as well
4. HKUST has given me a scholarship which makes the tuition 20% cheaper than NTU's. Moreover, HKUST is part of the GNAM which gives me an opportunity to do a concurrent degree in Yale (which will be another degree in hand + great brand value in Asia). NTU is not part of the GNAM, only NUS and HKUST.
5. Unless I go the Yale route I wish to finish the MBA and get back to work ASAP. I'd want to continue working in Singapore or Hong Kong post my MBA.
I picked the universities and cities based on my preference for continuing my career in Asia. I'm from India, did my undergrad in the US. Average undergrad GPA, 760 GMAT, 4.5 years work ex in renewable energy and Fintech. I want to work in Fintech in different parts of Asia to understand the space and its relevance with the lens of different cultures and customer preferences.
