You didn't tell us what kind of PhD you're thinking of, so it's hard to answer.

For Marketing PhD in the US, broadly speaking I'd say 2 new students a year (1 for consumer behavior and 1 for quantitative marketing) to start in Fall.

For all business-related PhD, you will see numbers like 14 new students at Duke, 20-24 at NYU and 29 at Stanford.

About missing the GMAT, I guess this may help you better than I can:

What Vakru meant was in India there is a "fall intake and spring intake".

In USA, to the best of my knowledge, there is only fall intake.

Some Australian schools have rolling admissions and have two intakes; fall intake and spring intake!

For Europe, some schools have only fall intake, such as LSE, Insead, etc.

That's why I asked which programs is he eyeing?

Ok, I get it. Yeah, it still depends on what kind of program.

I guess in Australia it wouldn't even be Fall and Spring, or at least it would be different (Australia is in the Southern hemisphere, so seasons there are different, with Fall being close to the beginning of the year).

Which schools do you want to do your Ph.D. from?

Top 25 programs, but am more interested in professors in the area of decision making.

I mean the number of time the admission window is open in a year.

Yes, it would be great if you can share the list of programs in Finance which are open more than once in a year.

Top 25 in Finance is very, very ambitious, and almost all schools in that range are in the US, accepting students only once a year.

The intake is only once during the fall.
