I recently got offers to study Full Time MBA from NUS and Nanyang MBA (with partial scholarship), I am a project engineer and planning to tailor my career to management consulting, in particular MBB. Which school will be a better choice for my desire career path?
Hello
YZLIM1994 hope you are doing well
Firstly congratulations on making it to both these prestigious schools that have a strong standing not only in Singapore but also in the rest of S.E and East Asia. As far as your goal to pivot to Mgt Consulting is concerned, I think the odds of getting considered for the MBB selection process are about the same at either school. As long as MBB and other consulting firms conduct hiring drives at these two schools (in addition to INSEAD in Singapore), the end result will completely depend on how strong a candidate you are to get shortlisted and then make it through all the interview rounds. Networking is another big factor in getting an interview, therefore getting referrals from school alumni who are at MBB can help (especially after you graduate).
Looking at the overall pool of management consulting aspirants in Singapore (local + international), you will have some advantage over others if you target regional offices such as in your home country. Getting into the Singapore MBB office is a Herculean task for foreigners. For the other regional offices in S.E Asia, language is sometimes a criterion and so you will have better odds if you select your home country office among your preferred destinations. Other popular offices people interview for are the Australian offices, Dubai, and London, but again competition would be very high for English-speaking cities.
I advise you to also have a plan B in place that aligns very well with your work experience so far and would set you up for great success in the long term.
Warm regards
