Let the members of the merchant be 100.

From statement 1:

30 people play trombone. But no info about how many boys or girls.
Insufficient.

From statement 2:

There are 60 boys. But no info about how know play trombone.
Insufficient.

Combining both:

Out of 100, 60 are boys and 30 play trombone. But still not sufficient to determine how many boys play trombone.
