Official GMAT Practice Exams

Question

Hello,

I just signed up for the GMAT and got 2 practice exams.
As far as I understand it, I can take these to exams as many times as I want, but the questions will stay the same?
And to get additional questions, I need to buy additional practice exams?
I've started yesterday to inform myself about the GMAT, so pls excuse my lack of knowledge!

Hi,

It is true that we can take the free official mocks as many times as we want. Since the ques pool of free mocks (Practice exams 1 and 2) is very large and since GMAT's algorithm is adaptive in nature, we may encounter only a few repeat ques every time we take repeat mock. Both these practice exams 1 and 2 have a common pool of ques bank.

In may personal case, I took Practice exams 1 and 2 without encountering any repeat ques. However, after taking these practice exams 1 and 2 for the first time, when I took repeat Practice exam 1, I found almost 30% repeat ques and ultimately, inflated score.

To answer your second query, to get additional ques, we need to buy additional ques bank, which comes in set of 2 practice exams; each set has different pool of ques but the two practice exams within a set have the same pool.

Yes, you can retake the tests. 
You will get some overlap. However, it is a bit tricky as to how much. Sometimes only a few questions overlap and sometimes more than a few questions. This makes the tests that are taken after a reset less reliable, though still great practice since they contain official questions.

Actually the database for GMAT Prep tests 1&2 is huge - it is over 1,000 questions... and we have had some enterprising folks find all of them.

You can take them an unlimited number of times. The "pool" of questions is the same but the questions the algorithm gives you may change depending on your performance. Probably fair to say you'll see some repeated questions if you give them multiple times.

Thanks for your help!
So would you recommend buying additional practice test? I would assume that those practice tests have questions from different question banks.
I've also read a post where someone said you reinstall a practice test, but I don't really understand the point behind this.

Yes, it's probably a good idea to buy additional practice tests, but don't just burn through the official tests because retaking tests 3 - 6 isn't great since their question banks are not large. Thus, if you retake them, you'll see many repeated questions. So, if you just run through the tests, you'll end up with none later on.

Instead, wait until later in your prep to take more official practice tests. If you want to practice handling the test experience, you can use third-party tests for now.

I'm not sure about reinstalling the tests. In the past, the tests were downloadable, but they no longer are. So, I don't think the idea of reinstalling them is relevant at this point.

So most people end up buying additional practice exams since they allow them for best measurement of their readiness. It is hard use other tests and feel very good about your results. These will be on sale of course this Friday for Black Friday.

Really?? The official tests will be offered a discounted price this Friday 25th Nov 2022. I don't this this advertised anywhere. If that's true I will wait to buy official tests 3 and 4 until this Friday. Please confirm.
